We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer McCarren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Branding is the foundation of our business. Our brand is founded on the experience our customers have when interacting with us, whether that be via the web, phone or in-person. Sure we have a lovely logo and present ourselves in a professional manner, but what gets our customers coming back is the actual experience they have with us during the photography session. We strive to make people feel at ease and create an experience that is both magical and memorable. We listen to what their needs are and deliver the best possible experience based on that.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Freckled Flower Photography apart from the competition? Hmmm … Customers have shared the following: they’ve shared that they believe my ability to make people feel comfortable in front of the camera is what keeps them coming back. And they’ve also shared that they love my ability to get the sweetest expressions from their children even when it seems that they’ve been uncooperative. And from an artistic standpoint, I receive lots of positive feedback regarding my use of light when capturing the perfect moment. Getting here wasn’t an easy road. I continued working my corporate job while I was establishing my photography business. At the time I was also raising two children and tending to my family. There were many sleepless nights. That is when I did most of my photography work so that I still had time to enjoy my family. That was challenging, but that wasn’t the toughest part. The toughest part was making mistake after mistake that would cost me hours and hours of my time and money to correct. The toughest part was learning how to use all of the new technology that was needed to take beautiful images, and then learning all of the backend processing softwares and how to use them. Through many, many hours of learning and experience, I was able to overcome many of these challenges. I still face new challenges every day and work hard to learn from them. The interactions during a photography session have always came naturally to me and that is what has made my brand successful. People are able to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience. Freckled Flower Photography is always working towards capturing the image that has the power to invoke true emotion. My brand is founded in that rush of emotions you feel when looking at a special photo. That’s when you know it’s worthy of hanging on your walls – and that’s the kind of child and family photography I set out to capture.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, we live in such an amazing area that it is difficult to choose, but I’d start out by taking them on various sunrise hikes along the Chattahoochee River, amongst other local parks, like Dunwoody Nature Center and Big Creek Park. The sunrises there are spectacular. Then we would hit up Canton Street in Roswell and frequent some of the best breakfast places like Roswell Provisions and Crazy Love Coffee House. We would visit the Tellus Science Museum one day and The Atlanta Zoo and Atlanta Botanical Garden other days. The Chattahoochee Nature Center would definitely be worthy of a visit as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first born was definitely the inspiration that guided me into this field. It was the moments where his sweet face brought a tear to my eye or tugged at my heart. The rush of emotions I felt when looking at him and the moments we captured through photography is what drove my passion for it. That being said, when I was just dabbling in photography as a business, Karen Studley of Muddy Faces Photography quickly became my mentor after she took professional photographs of my family. She has been a wonderful advisor not only from a photography perspective but also on the business side,. She has listened and acknowledged all of my questions, even the silly ones. I am honored and lucky to call her a friend.
