We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my business my initial thought process was to keep my house from foreclosing and my oldest two daughters in college. I guess, I would say I started out of opposition not knowing it was opportunity. After beginning the process and struggles my thought process changed. Now no matter how hard things got I was going to push myself to build a legacy for my three daughters as well as, other young ladies in my path.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am distinguished and preferred by my customers because I serve everyone with a spirit of excellence and love in every treat. This is what sets me apart. I’m most proud of the fact that my girls work with me and they enjoy it. Getting to where I am now professionally was definitely not easy. But I heard someone say a long time ago what you feed will grow. So when I realized this was the route I would take I began to feed that which I wanted to grow. I started reading Fortune magazines, I would watch You Tube videos on baking at least 30 min. a day, and I watch motivational videos from P&Z Life Coaching and many more to this day as I bake. It infuses me with power to keep on going even in the tough times. Challenges that arise now I have learned to speak to them and continue to trust that if God brought me to it He surely will bring me through it! There are so many lessons I have learned along the way. Like, ‘Do not despise small beginnings”, believe in myself before I expect others to, enjoy the process, and do not take the cake out the oven before it is done. I want the world to know your past failures, hurt, pain, or mistakes does not dictate what your future can create. I’m a black divorced, single mother from Fort Mitchell, Al . With a strong faith in God and family. Who’ve been through the storm rain and pain. A living testament to young women and men that dreams do come true! It does not matter where you come from or what they say about you God has placed a super power in you so you can become your very own Super Hero. From ashes to beauty is my story unfolding, Jenny’s Delightful Treats will be Golden!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Columbus, Ga is a nice wholesome place to visit with Good eats and fun treats. For breakfast check out “Plucked up” There biscuits are like clouds of heaven covered in blessings of gravy. For lunch have some Jerk chicken and amazing Jamaican cabbage and more from ‘Mercy’s Jamaican Kitchen” . Take a cool nice walk along the River Walk. Go listen to jazz on the lawn Down Town Broad. and Just before you Go have dinner at “Mabella’s Italian Steakhouse”. They have great drinks and the food as well as desert is a pure treat. And make sure you go have fun at Whitewater Express for whitewater rafting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout-out to my daughters, Erial; Erica; and Erin. These girls are my number one fans and stay up with me countless nights helping me bake, package, and sale. I am one blessed mother to have them. My amazing siblings, Arnell; Shelia; Nita; Darrell; Vanessa; Rodney; Ronald; Lynn; Renee and Mike have been there supporting me since day one. I love all of them so much. And my mentor Gail Alexander of “Gail’s Perfect Cup” has been a constant support and pushes me to expand and dream big. She encouraged me to start vending events as well as, spreading my name and business to others. I don’t want to leave out my special little helper Lauren who keeps me on my toes.
