We had the good fortune of connecting with Jelaminah Lanier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jelaminah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially I wanted my business to be a fun and interactive way for my fans from Bad Girls Club to stay connected with me over the years to come. However, I’ve always loved fashion, but would always have a hard time finding clothes that fit my body type. So, that became the driving force behind my brand. I also love to travel and wanted to incorporate that into my brand as well.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Normal Culture we strive to and are continually “Creating The New NORM”. All of our ready-to-wear items coming in white and all of our pants/bottoms are made for TALL women. Our garments start with a 33” inseam. That was one of the most important things I wanted to make sure that I gave the fashion industry. All of our swimwear is created by hand in LA and inspired by various places I have traveled throughout the world. Starting my brand wasn’t easy. I often felt like giving up when I didn’t see results as fast as others. I had limited resources and not very much knowledge about the ins and outs of having a fashion brand. I wanted to learn everything that I could do that my brand could really succeed. I thought myself how to sew on YouTube and practiced my craft for countless hours. Along the way I have learned to stay consistent and always show up for my brand. Even on the days when I’m not feeling motivated. No one will ever believe in your dreams or vision as much as you do. So, as an entrepreneur, you can’t allow that to stop you. In the last 2 years we have made a lot of progress. We relaunched know the middle of a pandemic, moved our office to LA, released multiple collections and have been a part of LAFW and NYFW. We are still considered a newer company but we are well on our way. Normal Culture will be a world wide brand.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all of my fans that have supported me over the years. I would also like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, as they have always supported and believed in my creative endeavors.
