We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmin Crumley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmin, what do you attribute your success to?
For me, success has been the fact that I get to do what I absolutely love and am called to do and still get to live well everyday. I’m just honored. I believe that our success has honestly come from having really strong faith and a sense of purpose from God. That’s what guides me. Working in a field then building a business where almost nothing is guaranteed and the future can be hard to predict can be the greatest and scariest leap of faith, but when you know that the purpose is bigger than simply fulfilling your own desires, you choose to let faith overtake any fear. I’ve done my best to pair those 2 things with striving for excellence in what we do and how we consistently present it, understanding our audience and making it both a personal and professional standard within our company, to treat all people with intentional care and a sense of warmth. Most importantly I believe that all of those things encompass who I am already am as a person. I always teach my clients, and those I mentor, that your product is one thing, but your brand is an extension of who you are. People don’t just buy products. People buy stories, familiarity and they buy into things and feelings they can relate to. This goes especially for creative entrepreneurs, contractors and artists. So to sum it up, I would say that the success we’ve had has come from me knowing and being myself, relating to our audience, consistency and reliability in what we produce and how we strive to make people feel seen, appreciated and supported.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Outlet For Vocal Expression began solely as a vocal coaching company where I trained vocalists at all levels to help them reach their highest vocal potential. To this day, what sets us apart is having both the formal education and the vast work experience to truly hear our clients, understand their specific needs and tailor our coaching to each individual. It’s not just general warmups and singing songs. We work to help them understand their instrument in a way that allows them to effectively and safely explore and experiment with their own voices both technically and creatively, even when we are not with them. We target their challenge areas, provide real solutions and help open the door to experiencing vocal and creative freedom and true confidence.
When I founded the company, I was simultaneously working as a professional background vocalist and had just obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Management from the Georgia State University School of Music. Although we still train vocalists and artists at all levels in various styles and genres, I’ve been blessed to bring the 2 worlds of vocal coaching/development and professional BGV work together. Now, we train vocal performers, scout, vet and contract them for various work opportunities. We also arrange songs for records, films and television productions and more, and are largely responsible for the vocal directing and production for many of our favorite productions, artists and other musical projects. We service in ALL things vocal with a high standard of excellence in quality, character and professionalism.
In addition to our “High Level 1 ON 1 Vocal Coaching”, much of the vocal development we provide now takes place inside of our online coaching platform, Singers’ Sanctuary. I founded this community in the summer of 2024 as our new vocal coaching and guidance platform for artists, lead singers and BGVs looking to take their skills and careers to the next level and join a network of amazing singers at an affordable price. It’s currently my favorite place to be and that’s my non-biased feeling. Once you experience being a member, you can’t believe the value you’re receiving at THAT price!
We have now worked with clients Tina Karol (Ukrainian Pop Icon) and Serayah (actress), Kirk Franklin, Tobe Nwigwe, K. Michelle, Donald Lawrence and many more as well as for shows we Vocal Direct such as the Stellar Awards, Urban One Honors, Black Music Honors, the BMI R&B/Hip-Hip Awards and many more. We have arranged songs and provided studio and live vocals for a plethora of artists, films, TV series and documentaries including some of my personal favorites. From providing vocal work for artists Mariah Carey and Tyrese, to television series/films like OWN’s “Greenleaf”, BET’s “Kingdom Business” and Lifetime’s “Robin Roberts Presents: MAHALIA”, I often reflect and think to myself “Wow! What a life! Thanks God!”
Building a brand and company like this and succeeding is not a joke! Not only does it take lots of hard work and investing in yourself to learn, grow and make the right connections, but it takes a lot of faith and time, or a word we often despise, patience. Sometimes, God doesn’t allow success or our desires to come to fruition when we want because we haven’t fully developed into who we need to be in order to properly handle it. Premature success can destroy us and we often think we are ready before we truly are. So it’s important to know what you’re called to do, believe in it no matter what you see and let divine timing work as it should while you continuing doing what you can with what you have. The tough part is overcoming the mind when things don’t seem to be aligning. You have to know that even the hard places can be for your benefit… especially when you’re moving in faith and purpose. I want people to know that you can absolutely fulfill your dreams, but you should allow yourself to get through the processes. If you’re a person of faith like me, I’d say to you to focus on perfecting your part and let God mind God’s business! It’s about working and trusting.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whatever we would do, there would be food! I often struggle with this question because for most of my life, when I’ve wanted the BEST food, I’d go visit family members like my grandmothers or aunts. No restaurant has ever beat my southern cooking family! However, Atlanta has EVERYTHING! Whether we would want something a bit more upscale for dinner like Divan’s or Houston’s, some great soul food from a place like Roc South Cuisine, seafood from Big B’s Fish Joint, breakfast from West Egg, pizza from Slim & Husky’s or a vegan burger from Slutty Vegan, we are going to eat VERY well! I love great food! It’s been a major part of my family and life. That’s why we would also be taking trips to the gym!
We might catch a great movie at an AMC with comfortable reclining seats or have a nice night at the Starlight Drive-In Movie Theater. I sometimes catch a comedy show at the Atlanta Comedy Theater, attend a concert at State Farm Arena, Tabernacle or the Roxxy, a theater production at the Fox or maybe attend a Hawks, Falcons or Braves game! I love sporting events! There are endless things to do in Atlanta, but these are my personal go-to’s! There are also several spots for great live music, jam sessions and more! As long as I’m in great company (which can also include my own company), I’m going to have a great time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family for always loving me, supporting me like no other and consistently SHOWING UP for me. It’s easy for many to verbalize their love and affection, but I was born into a unique group of people that constantly prove their words. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
I’d also love to shoutout every person who has been instrumental in opening any of the doors that have led me to live my dreams and build my brand! There are far too many to name, but whether your role seems great or small, it matters to me and I’m so thankful that you were a part of my journey. Finally, a special thanks to Latrice Pace for this nomination. She is a legend to me and I am so honored to have been nominated for this opportunity by someone I consider a role model and walking masterclass. I love you all!
