We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I remember as a child in school, it was my daily routine that kept me focused on my goals. I got the results I wanted in school because of the discipline my mother instilled in me all those years. Becoming a full time entrepreneur, I learned very quickly that there’s a different level of discipline required to be successful. This year, I have had to rework systems, implement new habits, and create a routine with personal and business goals to achieve each day of the week. Changing my behavior to match my mindset is a daily challenge, but I always keep in mind that everyday is a new opportunity to be a better ME.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being an artist is the Health, Beauty, and Wellness industry, Jaybelle’s is known for our precision and versatility! As the owner and CEO, it is my job to keep an eye out for new trends within in the industry, so it is always exciting to increase my knowledge and cultivate new skills! I started as a makeup artist in 2013 after picking up a brush for the first time on my 17th birthday. I instantly fell in love with the art of beauty enhancing! Fast forward eight years, I am now rebranding a successful business to cater to celebrities, photography and videography! Without the connections I’ve made along the way, the knowledge I’ve gained, the MONEY invested, wasted, and LOST, I could have never imagined this path for myself! The journey has been most rewarding, but I will not say it has been easy. I believe that I am called to this profession with purpose as it just comes so naturally to me! I was led to each level and I am excelling! Each loss has been a lesson that I carry with pride! Each time, I am faced with a new challenge, I use it as a season to reflect. It’s a humbling experience each time, in that I am re-aligning my business with who I am at that present time while reminding myself of the goals I’ve set in previous seasons. I grow with my brand! Most recently, I made the executive decision to take Jaybelle’s eyelash extensions and join the manufacturing side of the lash industry, selling and wholesaling products, within the next five years. When this plan was just a manifestation, I went through a season where I was put in a position to learn more about lash products! This lesson cost me more money than I earned, I lost clients, and I was making late payments on bills, as a result for months! Though, this was extremely discouraging, I was able to experience the things needed to implement in my business plan! I know how to invest in AND now have an opportunity to make this lesson lucrative for my business to incorporate in teaching! The money that I need to invest in this goal will come from teaching the lesson I needed to learn! Each new level, I am led to! Without these trials and errors, Jaybelle’s would not be the business it is today and I would not be who I am today! A full-time businesswoman creating wealth for herself and family; A BOSS!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love a good time! A weekend long trip with me automatically starts with Tequila shots and mixed drinks as soon we enter the Airbnb!! True first day, Friday, is all about catching up, winding down, and preparing ourselves for the weekend. We’ll enjoy dinner catered by a Black owned company, preferably Chef JRob (I am manifesting this as I type), dance, and have fun. Later we’d end the night with Live Performances and more drinks and The Plum Bar or The Perfect Note and maybe one or two more bars after (3000 and/or The Safe Room). Saturday, we’re brunching! A meal prepared by the ones who do it best… US! We may go shopping or choose to do something fun, like Breakout Birmingham or Birmingham Pedal Tours. We’ll be balling by Spring, so why not rent a boat out in Riverside on Coosa Queen Riverboat where can eat and drink some more! You know, the Bougie vibes! With these events in one weekend combined, we’ll be exhausted by Sunday! We’ll tune in to The Rock City Church with Pastor Mike McClure, Jr. at 10:30am to get a GREAT Word and chill the rest of the time we have together!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This first year as a full time entrepreneur has been difficult, yet rewarding! I’ve learned so much about myself, the industry of my business, and my craft! Most people do not recognize the hardships that come with being your own boss. There are so many responsibilities involved in running a business that us entrepreneurs take on all on our own. Without the help of my mentor, Monique Carr, master hairstylist of Monique Carr Beauty, LLC, I would not know where to begin! Monique advises me on business credit, systems, personal and professional habits and routines, marketing, you name it! Everything she has learned as a Girl Boss of over 20 years, she does not hesitate to share with me! Jaybelle’s and I are far beyond grateful, words could not express or emote the feeling! Over the past year, I have connected with a well known photographer in the city of Birmingham, DeAngelo Rose of DeAngelo Rose Photography and The Rose Tours, whose made a significant impact on the way I see beauty. My passion to create, specifically in the cosmetic industry has been exposed to new territory working in collaboration with him! Jaybelle’s networking and marketing skills have developed in the time of our partnership and I’m most excited to see where these new skills will take my brand! Shoutout to Monique Carr Beauty and The Rose Tours for making the biggest impact on the success of my brand, this year!
