We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Hyun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janet, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I call my art style, “prophetic art”, since I use spiritual symbolism to relay messages and the heart of God, our Creator. I have always been inspired by the profound ideas that can be found in the spiritual identity of certain animals and parts of nature. One of my favorite subjects to paint is the Lion, which is recognized as the Lion of Judah within Christian culture. The Lion of Judah represents the majesty, beauty, and power of Christ the King. Eagles are another one of my favorite subjects to paint, as they represent the gift of seeing one’s circumstances through a higher perspective. Someone who sees one of my eagle paintings will receive that spiritual impartation even if just subconsciously, and my hope is that they will be strengthened and empowered to see their current situation from a higher perspective – through the eyes of God. In this way, I communicate these kind of spiritual ideas and messages to my audience, and have heard many testimonies of being healed and strengthened through my prophetic art paintings. My inspiration is to be a vessel of the Holy Spirit, and create works of art that will heal people’s hearts and empower them to live within a divine purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing that sets me apart from other artists, is that most of my paintings are created in front of a live audience. I travel all over the U.S. and Asia, to paint live at conferences and events that celebrate God. I have the blessing of being able to experience first-hand reactions to my art, and people always come up to me and express what they are receiving spiritually through the paintings, and how it has served as a spiritual confirmation for their life. It is amazing to hear. Another thing that distinguishes the unique-ness of my art, is that I believe I am bringing a new level of excellence to prophetic art. The spiritual ideas and messages in prophetic art are amazing inspirations, but we also need skill and experience to create an intentionally impactful work of art. With my experience and education, I dedicated many years to honing my skills before I even discovered my true style and passion within art and painting. God was always preparing me for this time, so that I can reach as many people as possible. A few years ago, I wrote a book that details my journey as a prophetic artist, called, “Heavenly Expressions” by Janet Hyun. There are many stories in that book about what I have overcome and triumphed over. Life is not easy, but I have been strengthened by the spirit of God to always keep going, and I consider that one of my spiritual gifts. It is very natural for me to keep going, and never take my eyes off my end goal. I have a laser-like determination, and I do not allow fear to enter my plans and dreams. If I am inspired to do something, I just do it! Divine inspiration comes with divine timing. If we allow fear to take over, the moment will be gone and we will have missed a divine idea. I am most proud of my artwork and the vast number of pieces I have completed. I know that it was not by my own strength, but by the strength of God. Right now, I am in the process of building a non-profit organization that will fund fresh-water wells in developing countries. These wells will be covered with my artwork, with the goal of spiritually inspiring and empowering the people who come to drink from the well. They will receive water, and also the living water of the spirit. I am so thankful to my family, supporters, and to my Creator for bringing me to this point where I can begin to affect real and positive change in the world. This has always been my goal. to change the world and bring true healing through my art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been living in beautiful and blessed Southern California since I came to the U.S. from South Korea in 1988, My favorite place is to go to the Art Museums in LA County. There are so many great masterpieces to see from the Renaissance era, and modern paintings as well. It gives me a deep perspective when I see these paintings, and a spark of inspiration in spirit, I feel like I can closely relate to the Renaissance mindset and way of life, so I love to see those paintings. Two of my favorite museums are: Norton Simon Museum and LACMA. There’s a great collection of Renaissance art, and Van Gogh at the Norton Simon. LACMA has many different eras and styles of art, there is something for everyone there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my daughter, Jamie, who has been my partner in this journey. She understands my life purpose and goals, and is skilled at bringing them to fruition. When she was younger, many spiritual leaders and speakers told me that she would be a huge part of my art career and ministry. The main goal of my art career and ministry is to bring God’s light, love, and healing to this world through my paintings. Jamie has a similar life purpose of her own to bring healing and light to the world through her own creations, so it feels like we are partners in this life to accomplish our divine purpose. I am also very appreciative of my friend and business partner, Lydia Mikyung, who has been an invaluable support system for me and my art. And of course, my family and my dog Coco- I thank them for always supporting me to pursue my dreams no matter what.
