We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janet, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was to be able to make it easier for women who have textured hair. My daughter has kinky 4c hair, so I know how tough the process is. I wanted to create products that not only work, but empower others to embrace their hair no matter the texture.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Carrie J Hair Care is not only a line of amazing hair care and beard products, But we truly aim to educate, empower, and enthuse! We want our customers to feel confident after using the products. Making others feel empowered is our main goal. This journey has not been easy, but it’s been worth it. Through all the challenges from not being able to afford inventory to delays with shipments, I am proud to have pushed through. Stopping was never an option and will never be. I want the world to know that Carrie J Hair Care is here to stay and this is ONLY the beginning.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, thank you God for not allowing me to give up! My faith has truly kept me motivated and determined. Huge shoutout to my parents, brothers, the 4ks, and close family who have supported me since day one! Another shoutout to Mrs. Shawanda for telling me 6 years ago that I needed to step out and create a hair care line. That conversation will forever live with me. Thank you to Tiana and Women’s CEO Alliance for helping me come out of my shell and pushing me when I needed it most. Thank you to my best friends Candice, Yolanda, and Alveda for always listening and supporting my brand. Thank you to each and every customer who has supported me whether it was sharing a post or purchasing. I could not do this thing without you all! Finally, to my grandmother Carrie Jeanette who I decided to name my brand after, your legacy shall live on forever. I hope that I am making you proud!
