We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamina Merriweather and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamina, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from Springfield Massachusetts. I moved to Georgia about 8 years ago. When I first moved to Georgia, everyone will ask me where I am from because I sounded different, When I would say Springfield and they will immediately ask Springfield, Illinois. I’m like no Springfield Massachusetts . Like no one knew about us lol.  I would say New York, Boston area, then they be like ok lol. But I really love the south, I love the weather, the people. All the connections that I have made from new friends to my business partner and of course my husband, my biggest supporter.

Growing up my cousins and I spent a lot of time with my grandmother, who would have us singing and dancing at the nursing homes. We would pass out dinners to the elderly and serve the homeless during the holidays. My grandmother taught us to be kind and helpful to others. We used to go to the nursing home and spend time with the elderly. I mean we will have an entire dance routine for a talent show at the nursing home! We will be really performing our little hearts out.

They really enjoyed our little performances and from there I always wanted to help others. We were the only visitors for some of them and that tough to watch. I am big on family and spending time with family and friends. Life is all about making memories. Seeing the difference that we made to the elderly always stayed with me growing up. This had a huge impact on the person I am today, someone that is always going to try to help others and make a difference.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been working in the medical field for over 15 years and this is what I was born to do. I am passion about my clients and my caregivers. I have had the opportunity to across so many different individuals from all different aspects of life and everyone wants to be treated good. Now I have many challenges from business challenges to challenges in my personal life as well. Moving, being a mom, new wife, new home, and a blended family, I had my share of highs and lows! I had to really push forward for this dream before it became a reality. Working to live and waiting for my business to turn profitable has was a big challenge. I want the world to know to never give up on your personal goals and dreams no matter how hard it gets. Victory is always on the other side of the struggle. Having a great support system made a big difference in my journey. Once I met my business partner Jeannetta, we pushed together and made a dream we both shared a reality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for the weekend, I would take her to the to Slutty vegan, early because it gets busy and that is a must if you come to Atlanta. We will visit the battery and eat at the Yard house, Go to The escape Game Atlanta and complete one of the escapes rooms. If we make it a family affair, we may visit the Georgia Aquarium, the Atlanta beltline. I’m a history person so , we will visit all the historic spots, Martin Luther King Historic site will be at the top of the list. We will hit all the hot spots to eat, one of my favorites is Toast on Lenox. Such a good vibe there. Houston’s will be a must;  they have the best ribs!! I would take her to a few places right here in Douglasville. Place of Kai to sit in the salt cave and Relax a little.  We will eat at Red Velvet Bistro and Table 25 Fork+wine- Two of my favorite spots for the best Mac and cheese!! We will go to dinner and a movie at IPIC theater. Before she leaves, we will have a family game night right at the house playing Uno!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout a few people. First, I must Shout out God! Thanking him for giving me the vision and drive to get started and push through. Starting a business was not easy. I thank him in advance for blessing Care From The Heart. My shout out is dedicated my family, especially my husband and my boys. They had to hear me ask the same questions a million times!! What you think about this or that. Working for free to help wherever I needed help. They are my biggest supporters, and I couldn’t have made this far with it them. Also, My business partner Jeannetta!! We met about two years ago and had the same vision and decided to work together, we would not have got this far without each other . Gods will connect you to who you need. My grandmother, my mother, and my uncle for raising me with good morals and values. My goal is to make them proud.
