We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalea Pippens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalea, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My cleaning business actually came about as a spin-off of a business I was already in partnership with. I am a co-owner of a vending machine company called…… DRUMROLL… LITERALLY LIT VENDING! We started the vending company during the pandemic. During that time we met lots of other vending company owners and they were in need of cleaning services for their machines. I love coming up with new ways to expand on how you can make money doing things you’re already good at. I was always phenomenal at cleaning. I would get compliments from family at home, friends from after-party cleanups, and how I kept my stations clean at work. I offered a number of vending owners cleaning services for their machines and from there the lightbulb appeared. I wanted to keep the company names the same for exposure. When you see Literally Lit Incorporated anywhere you would see and think of all the multiple companies we run. That is the making of Literally Lit Cleaning Services.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I feel like what sets my company apart from others is that it’s LITERALLY LIT! All jokes aside my company is really attentive to our clients. We like to call ourselves therapists! We provide mental therapy for our clients by providing professional cleaning services. We also listen to the needs and wants of our clients to ensure we are giving them the best services there are. I feel by doing this adds a personal touch and lets them know we really have their best interest at heart.
So far I am most proud of how far I’ve come. I remember when I only had one client and my business was only residential.
I now have many clients and have expanded my business to residential and commercial services. Also, this will be my second feature this year. This exposure makes me feel so good and reassures me that my team and I have a great work ethic!
I feel like my resilience has gotten me where I am today! I JUST DIDN’T GIVE UP! I am so passionate about my company and that was always my drive. I also had a great support system from family, friends, and mentors! I appreciate everyone that was and wasn’t in my corner! It gave me a passion to work even harder!
Being an entrepreneur is definitely not easy! There were so many struggles getting my business to where it is now and I’m sure there will be more struggles as I become more successful in my endeavors. I always overcome my challenges through prayer and remember that God doesn’t give me anything more than I can handle. That gives me confidence in God that he will help me and confidence in myself that I can do LITERALLY anything I put my mind to.
I have definitely learned to be more organized. Being a business owner there isn’t a lot of room for mistakes. This brings me to my next point which is knowing when to hire! As an entrepreneur, you still have to remember that you are a human being and you can only handle so many things in one day. It’s best to let people who have more expertise in certain areas take on those jobs so you can be well-rested and moderately balanced. It is never wise to overbook yourself or be the only person taking every role in your company! It makes for bad business as you grow.
I want the world to know that my company really is authentic. We have integrity and we aren’t judgemental! That’s why we are therapists. We understand that life gets rough and people get tired. We are here to take all those anxieties away from you. Most of all we have fun and really enjoy what we do! That’s why we are LITERALLY LIT.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m from Detroit and I love my city! We would definitely go downtown to Candados and get tacos with margaritas for lunch. We for sure would go to the Detroit Institute of Arts for an artsy vibe. I think a walk down the Detroit River Walk always adds a peaceful touch. It’s so beautiful looking at all that water and seeing Canada right across from us. I love seafood so we would hit Joe Muer for dinner and maybe Mister Dips for dessert! I’d end the night at a fancy hotel downtown like Shinola.
I do love visiting Chicago, and Georgia for sure! Chicago has lots of stuff to do and Georgia has the nicest people!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out to Asia Howard who owns The Creative Digitals. She has been a big support system to me personally and has helped my company grow in such a tremendous way. Her company specializes in new business setup, tv and radio advertising, social media marketing, and management. Asia has provided my business with a strong foundation and great content creation from my website to my social media presence.
