We had the good fortune of connecting with Jakeyla Carlton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jakeyla, what matters most to you?
In life we go through many stages, we run into different problems, life-changing events occur and sometimes we overcome by having faith and we tend to call good things blessings. So at age 25, I have learned to value God, and just live life off of being a good person to others. Being a good person and helping others is important to me because there have been many times I have had a bad day and did not tell anyone how I was feeling but encountered someone with a good spirit who was just nice to me because that is their personality and those type of encounters always make my day, and a way for me to keep that unknowingly blessing going is by being a good person to others, and helping others even if they do not as for help. There are many great businesses that lack good customer service, and I believe if you do not have good customer service or have no interest in pleasing the people your business can never fully succeed without the people the business is nothing.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Managament Key LLC a.k.a “THE KEY” is a management company that specializes in Property management, Entertainment management, and Marketing. My company is different because I am actually living out my life purpose throughout my business it took three years before my dreams became reality. There are many times I failed and had to keep trying over and over. When I first started in 2018 I wanted to make quick money many people start businesses because they want income, and I had to learn in order to start a business it has to be built on a foundation and that foundation has to be about more than money, now my business focus is living out my life purpose and I believe my purpose is to help other people succeed and become wealthy in a field they love. Proverbs 11:25 is the perfect example of why I am successful in what I do “A generous person will prosper those who refreshes others will be refreshed” at age 25 I currently manage three different properties in Birmingham, AL I am thankful that the owner of The Landings at East Arrington took a chance with me to manage my first property because without that company I probably would have given up. Last year around this time I was working at an Elementary school and “The Key” was a side hustle, by having faith and helping others I was able to turn my hustle into a full-time job. I put God first in everything I do, and I want the world to know my business was built off of faith, many people like to call it “Self Made” when they do it by themselves but I call my process “God-made” God has put different people in my life in order to manifest what he had for me and I am forever grateful for God making a way for me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When in Atlanta brunch is a must; we would definitely go to “OLG” old lady gang southern cuisine my favorite thing on the menu is the grilled Shrimp Po-boy that sauce on those sandwiches is amazing with “the housewife ” on the side (that’s an adult beverage) other food places I enjoy are A-Town wings on the southside, taste of Thailand. Then after brunch, we would go out back for at least 30 minutes to the day- bar. If this is their first trip to Atlanta we would visit the famous World of coke, and of course the aquarium across the street. Last summer the parking lot concerts were fun so we would take a quick trip to Murphy park to catch a concert if it was pre-covid and during the winter my concert of choice would be the Winterfest. I love museums I graduated college as a history major so if we have to find a week’s worth of events to do in Atlanta I would go to the different museums each day the High Museum of Art, the civil rights museum, and the Trap music museum, etc. Although I do not like rollercoasters, what’s a trip to Atlanta without stopping in at six flags. Atlanta gives you so many choices I could go on and on, of the possibilities It would really depend on the friend and their vibe, Atlanta offers different vibes for different people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people that deserve a shoutout for who I am today, everyone I have encountered has taught me something even if it was good or bad. Seriously, I would like to shout out to my entire family my mother Eureka for teaching me how to be a strong independent woman, my mom always worked hard and I never understood why she was so hard on me until I got older and I appreciate that. My grandma Lisa and Bigma allowed my mother to attend college and took care of me while she was away, and I am forever grateful. My aunties Tresha, Kema, Janice, and Doris all played an important role in molding who I am today. Lastly, my cousins Nard and Janee I’m forever thankful for having two older cousins that took me in as their little sister, and I appreciate you guys so much. I consider myself the child the village took care of and I am so lucky that I was placed in that particular “village” the love I receive from them is irreplaceable. I almost forgot my Grandmother Margie and Grandfather Robert, thank you for praying for me, loving me, and trying to fix my father’s problems your work did not go unnoticed.
