We had the good fortune of connecting with Jai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jai, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Honestly, within the past few months here I found myself struggling a lot with self doubt & I was doing a bunch of second guessing… all in all though, giving up isn’t an option. If you are equipped with passion and drive, nothing should ever be able to stop you. I was raised to be a go getter, and that’s exactly what I’ll be until the end of time. Nothing compares to the genuine love I have for my craft.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go by the name of yours truly jai, but most people call me jai! I am a singer, born and raised in Nashville TN. Being that I wanted my artist name to have “yours truly” in front of it, my immediate thought was authenticity. I definitely feel like I am one of a kind, and I am always pushing people (including myself) to be themselves unapologetically. I didn’t start believing in myself and my craft until 2019, but I’ve been singing since I was about 4 or 5. I have always been a HUGE music lover. It took a whole lot of mental clarity, confidence, and overall willingness to get to where I am today, which was not easy. I used to be filled to the brim with self doubt, but I have always been aware that God resides in me and we are all made in his image. He does not give us the spirit of fear. I am no longer afraid to do and be all that I was called to. I had to learn to not be afraid of my talent, and if I was given one, to use it… to stand tall and proud in all of my being.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
THE PUB. The germantown pub is one of my favorite places to eat, and they always provide good vibes alongside the food. After the pub, Game Terminal (which is fairly new) is an arcade type situation, and it’s so dope! I love games. The Nashville music scene hosts ton of events that catch the eye/ ear, so I am always supportive of such endeavors, whether that be a show, party, wine tasting, or a small get together. The city just got a museum in honor of African American Music.. definitely on the top of the list of things to check out! (NMAAM) Since covid, it’s been kinda ass, but when outside is open, the vibes go so crazy. Downtown Nash is the spot during the weekend.. plenty things to do on Broadway.. plenty things to see too lol if you know you know.. they get down on Broadway. I, myself, am a nature girl, so I’m always down for a hike. The best trails are about an hour and some change outside of Nashville.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout God first and foremost for blessing me with such a dope gift! My management team Power Entertainment, my brother @iamchuckindigo who I’ve looked up too over the past 2 years, he’s someone I have gained so much knowledge, insight, and tons of inspiration from. I’m also heavily influenced by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Keke Wyatt, Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé.
