We had the good fortune of connecting with Jabria Luddley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jabria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially my thought process was that I would absolutely not start my business “until the time was right.” For me, that meant I had all the funds, supplies and knowledge. I even told a close friend of mine that I was waiting for that moment. Her response was “Jabria, it is never going to be the right time, if you keep waiting for that you’ll be waiting forever!” I was honestly mad at her for saying that to me, but then I grew to realize she was right. I went online and filed for my LLC. No, I didn’t have a business plan, business cards, all the supplies or knowledge on running a business at the time but it came with the process. Because I thoroughly enjoy cleaning and it’s actually therapeutic to me, I stepped out of faith. It;s very much still a learning process but I’m taking it one day at a time. After one year of launching I can say that I am booked, busy and blessed. Miss Lucy’s Cleaning Co. LLC will be a force to be reckon with one of these day in the cleaning industry!

What should our readers know about your business?
Miss Lucy’s Cleaning Co, LLC is a residential cleaning company in Conyers, GA serving as far as the Metro Atlanta area and its surrounding cities. What sets my business apart from others is that I don’t plan on sticking to just one avenue. Unfortunately it is mainly just me cleaning when I’m not working as a flight attendant. However, I plan on extending my affordable rates to commercial cleaning, adding pressure washer services and Fogging Disinfectant to combat COVID-19 and hiring a team to help me along the way. I’m most proud of how far my business has came so far and even more excited that we will be growing. During my last interview with you all I mentioned that I would like to be offer jobs for people in the Atlanta area. Less then a year later and I’m standing on my word to execute that part of my vision. I was able to get where I am today from my mentor, Bill Macy with SCORE and my mom helping me with some of the homes but honeslty it hasn’t been easy. My passion for cleaning has helped me to overcome those challenges. Some of the lessons that I learned along the way are: 1) Just go for it! If you have a business, product or idea, don’t wait for the “right time” or the approval of others. 2) Don’t tell your every move. It’s just best to move in silence. 3) Don’t give up. Even when it seems to hard to keep pursing. Someone is always rooting for you. 4) Nothing will happen overnight. Just enjoy the process. I would like the world to know..I am a 26 year old African American female that had a dream and went for it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This might sound a little cliche but my shoutout goes to my mom. She works a full-time job but still manages to help me with big jobs for my clients. Even on days that I can’t go out and do a job, she steps in! She’s completely supportive and tries to encourage me in every way that she can.
