We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivory Chana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ivory Chana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The process of starting Chana Chic was honestly a random thought. I wanted something different and edgy to express how I felt every time I put a look together. It came to me just like that! In that moment, I knew that my brand would be everything and more. It was something about the way my name flowed with the word chic. I was like “YEP, THAT’S IT”. Chana (CHUH-NAE) is my middle name and I always loved the edge it had. Adding chic with my name is the same way I like to add a chic touch to all my styled looks. From the day I created Chana Chic until now I have been able to find myself and my passion! The process isn’t over yet, the best is yet to come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have so much more work to do within my brand but nothing is more original than me and my style aesthetic. I am most proud of being able to step out of my comfort zone and into my creativity more and more. It’s true that artist/creatives are sensitive about the work they present to the world but overtime my confidence in my brand has grown tremendously. Chana Chic is more than just a brand or business, it’s something that is very personal. It started with an initial thought to build myself up and I decided to build up a career in the process. If it was easy, I wouldn’t be doing it! You overcome the challenges day by day and learn that it’s your aspirations and self care that matters the most. I’ve learned that you have to keep the focus on yourself before you proceed to other things and keep your energy aligned. I want the world to know that there is a reason why you are still here. I went through the toughest time of my life and I brought Chana Chic back as if nothing ever happened. I came back better because of the time I put into myself. Nothing can stop you from being successful. Adjust to change and your constant flow and everything will fall in place for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an extra but still subtle person. The only thing that is exciting to me outside of styling is eating and shopping! Me and my bestie would definitely hit up a fashion district with clothing boutiques and sneaker shops! Embrace the day with brunch at Garden Parc, starting the day off with a nice R&B mood. Then head to Little Five Points. Those two places are honestly my favorite in the Atlanta area, it has just a little bit of everything. Variety of black owned shops and a restaurant that caters to the culture is the true vibe. Anywhere with a good vibe, drinks, and food is fine with me. And as far as the night life, anywhere our outfits can be top tier is where we’ll be at for sure!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God deserves all the credit for giving me an eye for style! He has truly shown me that I have a purpose and has given me everyday to fulfill it. Of course to my mother who truly taught me style and for her unconditional love and support. Shoutout to my closest friend Neri, that takes the dopest photos for me, hypes me up and has been there from the start! Anyone who has shown me any support with words, with a styled look, or just simply reaching out to me for style advice, you are greatly appreciated. I am always grateful for the genuine support.
