We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Henkel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac, what do you attribute your success to?
Character. Perhaps the most important of the success factors to accelerating your life is your character. Self-discipline combined with honesty will open countless doors for you. Trust is the foundation of all relationships. I stand strong on the fact that i have never burned any bridges in life because no matter who, what or where in life, you will always need to cross one of those at some point in life and it really could be as small as just a conversation about life or in need of someone to get you through a stressful time. Those are the bridges you never want to burn in life since we all know how stressful life could be at times. I have always been true to myself and everyone around me and i believe my business success has really been built on the person i am and what i have always stood for.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from everyone else is, my drive to be the best at my craft and the field i am in (BBQ Sauce) and my business. I also believe my vision and thought process sets me apart from the rest. I am most proud about becoming a business owner and making my dreams a reality. I got to where i am today by hard work and dedication and not letting doubters/naysayers to get to me. I dont think anything in life is easy especially when you come from nothing to wanting everything in life. I believe the easiest part was acknowledging that i had a gift. I overcame the challenges by just believing in myself with every fiber in my body and knowing i was meant to be here and i was meant to be great one day. I would say the lessons i’ve learned along the way are; no one will do the work for you and you really have to dig deep if you want to be great in anything you do in life. also hard word and dedication really does pay off. I would want the world to know about me is that i have been through the worst of times and never gave up on my dreams and to always knowing i was put here to be something great. I came from (sleeping in a car as a kid, being in a orphan home to being adopted to being homeless at 19) to still be standing with a smile on my face and my name as a OWNER. We all have a purpose in life, you just need to dig deep and find out what yours is. DREAMS DO COME TRUE.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
well knowing me and knowing i love great conversations with great people and also i was a chef for 12 years so i love to cook and have a glass of wine. i would definitely make them dinner the first night and relax but by the second night i would show them different areas around metro detroit and find some great music and food and invite a bunch of friends out to show them a good time. I love hole in the wall spots all over the detroit area so i would definitely ask what kind of food they are feeling at that moment and go from there. If it is the summertime in michigan then i would definitely take them to lake michigan and all the nice food spots off the water or the riverfront downtown detroit. probably by the end off the week we would just relax and talk about everything that happened pover the week and how our families and friends are doing along with our next big business ideas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think i could start off by thanking my late great grandmother “Naedel Henkel” for always being there and never letting me give up on myself even when life got hard and i wanted to give up. Secondly- My son (Christian Isaac Henkel). Before he came into this word (Feb 24th 2017), i was lost and still in search of who i was and what my purpose was on this planet. I truly believe he saved me and re-ignited the fire that once burned so deeply and drove me to be successful no matter what. Third- My best friend “Derrick Kirk”. He has pushed me to never give up on myself or my dreams and always aloud me to express my vision without shooting any of my goals down but to only build on ideas to make them even bigger and better. He made sure i was on track by always asking how things were going and always kept be accountable. Last but not least is Nipsey Hussle. His music inspired me since 2009 in college and got me through hard times and taught me that life was indeed a marathon and not a sprint by all of the goals and obstacles he over came. He came from nothing and build an empire and kept the same team (Group of friends) throughout everything and i could really connect to that. His passing on my 30th birthday (March 31st 2019) really was the day that really showed me i had to continue on this journey and never give up because he never did.
