We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Boone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Imani, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by one person and that person is Issa Rae. I am inspired by her because she is a black woman, who worked very hard to get to where she is now. She started by having a show on YouTube and now she is and has one of the most successful shows on HBO. What inspires me about her is that she is the example of hard work and dedication. Issa Rae has shown me throughout her journey that no matter what; if you put the work in and keep pushing, you will reap the benefits and success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a petite model (5’0ft even) with natural hair, and an admirable personality. Being a petite model is not an easy journey, simply because everyone knows that brands/designers usually want the tallest of the tall. The industry is changing little by litter, and I plan to be the one that takes over and forces the industry to be even more inclusive than they are. I got into this industry by networking and honestly talking to people. You never know how far a conversation will get you, and because of the consistently conversing with people (I love to talk) is what helped me get here. With anything else, being a petite model is very challenging because honestly I hear a lot more no’s than I do yes. Most clients/brands want someone who is tall, skinny, with certain futures and I’m not any of that. I had to learn to not be upset about it and I had to learn that one no does not equate to one yes; also I had to learn that it’s okay to hear no. You will not get every gig that you apply for just like you will not get every job that you apply for. Once you get that in your head, rejection gets a little bit easier. I am very excited to see what the year 2022 will bring to myself and to my modeling career; because this petite model is taking over. So everyone better get ready.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a best friend visit me, I would take them definitely take them to boxcar, Rich Girls Museum, Artistika (a fun Latin club), The Science Center, and Fat Tuesday. The science center is a fun place to visit during the day, especially on a nice warm sunny day. All of the other places I listed are all fun things to do at night. Food wise I would take them to either scrambled, Dames Chicken and Waffles, or Luxe for brunch. The food and drinks at all three places are amazing. For lunch I would take them to either Hops (a local burger joint) or I’d take them to Kiosko for which in my opinion has the best Mexican food in the Triad. Lastly for dinner I would recommend Lucky 32, Bravo, Flemings, or print works bistro. All of those dinner spots are upscale restaurants with great food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My boyfriend Ryan is one person I want to shout out, and along with him I want to shout out my best friend’s Kiana, Mahala, Alexus, and last but not least my brother James (JT). Ryan is truly one of the biggest blessings I have ever had come into my life. He is such a motivating person and I feel that without him consistently helping me, keeping me focused, and loving me throughout this process I would not be where I am today. I also want to shout out Kiana because without her I would have never gotten into modeling, she is the one who introduced me to this world and helped me with my confidence. I want to also shout out and thank Mahala for always motivating me, booking me, and also giving me guidance in this modeling industry. Lastly t I want to thank both Alexus and JT who are both AMAZING photographers! Without them booking me, guiding me, helping me with my portfolio/comp cards I would not be nearly as successful and prominent as I am now.
