We had the good fortune of connecting with Herman Prater Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Herman, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Believing in myself wholeheartedly, and not taking no for an answer. I found my most rewarding moments honestly when I’m at the gym working out, because it allows me the time to really be at center with myself and focus directly on the goals I’ve set. Not only does the gym allow me to build my physical, but it’s also great for strengthening the mind as well. When your mind is clear, you start to feel, move, and think differently.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Initially when I started out I didn’t know what direction I was going to take, or where my camera would even lead me. As of today I’ve shot weddings, portraits, events, even some real estate homes to broaden my portfolio. I’ve been blessed for sure. The journey hasn’t always been easy though, as you know. With entrepreneurship/and or running a business there’s going to be times where you question yourself a lot to what the next step is going to be, and how you’ll get there. Thats when you have to dig deep to remember who you are, and why you started. To reach your greatest self you have to go through road blocks, hurdles and find your own path.
What sets me apart from most is that I believe in my ability to manifest my dreams. I don’t just talk about it, but I actually show up & do the work to see it come to fruition. The way I approach my work is very aesthetically appeasing. I don’t just take a photo, but I capture the moment. There should be a story in your portraits, and dept. The essence, its a feeling, it’s a vibe! You want people to gravitate to what you do as being one of a kind. My biggest aspiration is to see my work one day on a billboard, or inside of a magazine. That would be insane! I’m speaking it & claiming it right here, right now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s a new restaurant on the waterfront Downtown Chattanooga that just opened a few months ago, Agave & Rye. They have some AMAZING food, drinks, hospitality, and the artwork inside is top tier! Goodfellas Pizzeria has been a spot I’ve frequent here lately, plus they have arcade games which is cool. If you’re into mystery games I would definitely hit up The Escape Room, or head to the local bowling alley. You can’t go wrong at either of those. Wanna get out the city the city limits? Well about 45 mins down the road is Cloudland Canyon. I would recommend going here when its warm outside though, because the waterfalls and scenery of the mountains are breathtaking. Just make sure you bring some good hiking shoes, and some water cause you’ll need it LOL. But it’s definitely worth the adventure.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I have to Shoutout GOD for allowing me this platform to showcase my photography skills and what I bring to the creative world. My wonderful parents of course, they’ve seen me at my highs and low’s and have stuck with me since day one on this journey. A HUGE SHOUTOUT to my Hometown Chattanooga, TN and those who have been rocking with me the last 3 years. I’ve had some of the most amazingly dope clients who’s not only taught me how to better my craft, but to be a better person as well while doing so. If it wasn’t for them non of this would even be happening, so from the bottom of my heart Thank You! Also to my Atlanta Friends & Family, Shooters Camp, and everyone in the city who’s allowed me to learn from, and create with them, a Big Shoutout to them as well. Last but not least, to any creative out there that has a vision, and want to doing something remarkable .. believe in yourself, go for it. You got this.
