We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Beckles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is a tricky maneuver to tackle! However, responsible risks at most is always successful. I took a risk of putting my knowledge to use for myself instead of allowing others to use me for my knowledge; with little to no acknowledgement that I presented value.

So- I use to be this bold , speak my intentions kind of person. After a while I was no longer this person. What I realized was the immediate and important need for me to start reading the room for what it presents itself as. A major life shift on how to let my creative mind flow; while at the same time 1.preserving my energy, and 2. not allowing my other to benefit from my knowledge of experience.

One day after listening to Jim Rhon on taking risks for about the 100th time. I had a eureka moment.
That discovery allowed me to realize that I stopped taking risks. And as a result, I’m not where I dream to be!

So! Here we are in 2022 and I decided to introduce my young self to my current self. My young self grabbed me and we took one of the best risks. I’m co-owner of an actual business! I mean, I’m still in awe what took place in such a short period of time.
In 2019 I experienced a trifecta of amazing life changing events. I’m working on the same again! This- all because I took some risks.

Jim Rhon, on risks:

If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Hi there Atlanta! We are Lot 23 Chandler Co. | A candle-making workshop company; located in the historic neighborhood of Castleberry Hill, in beautiful Atlanta, GA.

I’m the co-owner of Lot 23 Chandler Co.

We provide the process olfaction as future chandlers learn the fundamentals of candle-making in a school like environment.

“The idea of Lot 23 Chandler Co. stems from my childhood of growing up having to use candles and kerosene lamps as a source of light; very frequently.”

Our concept comes as an experience destination for chandlers, or soon to be (chandlers – a fancy name for a candle maker). We simply offer candle-making workshops with an appreciated experience to follow- surrounding the process of scent-recall as you navigate what best compliments your sub-conscious.

Lot 23 Chandler Co then comes as an experience destination for chandlers, or soon to be (chandlers – a fancy name for a candle maker). We simply offer candle-making workshops with retail accessories to complement.

Our workshops offer three specialty workshops geared towards providing insights into the fundamentals of candle-making on a small batch level (however large production can also be done), for entrepreneurs who seek to start their own candle making business (a source of light that would help with understanding to take their business further, and likewise bringing comfort to them) by craft, but just can’t get the details of measurements to ratio correct.
Secondly, we also cater to tourist visiting the bustling downtown Atlanta area. Not limited to!

Whether teaching an entrepreneur new hacks, or a student who’s visiting just for pleasure, our customers also goes through the process of olfaction. Here, discussions around mixing oils in wax comes into play. Including, the history around particular scents.

I’d say I’m here today because as a creative, I’m not able to exclusively present to customers my craft ability working for someone as co-creator number 1001.
Some challenges tagged to this includes:

Getting out of my own way; overall! Here, I’ve learned the importance of having positive influences around me. My team keeps me focused on what we’ve set out to accomplish.

Take away with you as you read about our journey in taking Lot 23 Chandler Co to the next level, that we offer candle-making classes #candlemakingclasses as a form of art-therapy.

Lastly, I’m a girl who started working in retail at the age of 15 not knowing that retail – many years later actually lends a kind of therapy to consumers who simply want to experience an unexpected experience that leaves them satisfied.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hi future besties! So, your here for a week or a weekend!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This question if an emotional one for me. First! I will always give thanks to the high vibrations towards laws of intention, attraction, laws of visualizations and communication. Essentially our God above!

Going on! Emotional, because what I may not consider as mentoring others may. Overall it’s both the authentic and genuine efforts with whom I’m going to shoutout.

There’s a conglomerate of persons to praise. However, I’ll get tot he point.

Firstly, my best friend! This being has uplifted me in ways never imagined! A huge shoutout because they’ve helped in the recovery from a contumelious relationship. Lending advice on how to overcome adversity in business as a professional and personal happenings. They are also Lot 23 Chandler Co creative director.

Then there is the life of retail I’ve experienced! Working for fashion houses like Ralph Lauren, and Burberry for example; has taught me the importance of attention to detail surrounding customer service, to revenue gains; together with giving your niche customer an experience every time they enter your home.
That home also translating as your place of business!

Segueing to the multinational corporation who’s one of Dow Jones Industrial 30 components; American Express. Having a vision together with a business plan is great to execute how you will strategize on revenue gains- however, funds to do so is essential to breath life into your first day of business. I am forever thankful to American Express extending efforts towards small businesses; mine being one of them.

Locally speaking, to Atlanta- Slutty Vegan owner Mrs. Pinky Cole has sparked something in me towards the potential to escape velocity in the world of business.
Being from the country of Guyana, experiencing a piece of the America pie other than working for some pretty amazing companies is something I’m reaching for.
Mrs. Cole has shown me that as a black women and a young black women it is possible (I follow her via her IG account). She has been a grand representation of excellence. Regarding representation, many times you need to see someone like you in gender and hue excelling.

At the moment my mentorship continues to pull inspiration from non-physical story-telling, or inspirational speakers such as Ester Hick, Les Brown, Jim Rhon; and the clients who has since supported Lot 23 Chandler Co.
