We had the good fortune of connecting with HaJ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HaJ, is there something you believe many others might not?
That there is some specific blueprint that you are supposed to follow in order to achieve success. I believe it’s about learning to listen and trust your intuition so that you can create your own blueprint and define your own success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Growing up I didn’t see a lot of shows on TV that reflected my experience being an Urban Chameleon; someone who chameleons between listening to Yo Yo Ma and Jay Z, eating fried chicken and sushi, shopping at target and Gucci (or at least wanting to) ha! What’s interesting about the times we live in today – the idea of being more than one thing…being a complex citizen of the world is the new normal. I struggled for a long time with trying to fit into one box because it felt like that’s what I was “supposed” to do. It wasn’t until I had this beautiful revelation that it’s ok not to be one thing. In fact, I realized that maybe if I don’t see what I’ve been looking for on television then I should create it. My company, The Rich Idea (www.therichidea.com) now allows me to utilize my 20+ years of experience writing, producing, developing content for companies like Sony, ABC, Disney and BET to coach creators struggling to streamline and translate their unique experiences into a marketable TV show they can pitch and sell. There is so much beauty, irony, and humor in our complexity and mainstream media is starving for it. It’s an incredible time to be a creator for television.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love when friends come to visit me and my family in Atlanta. In fact, I think I’m lowkey always trying to get them to move here! Some ways I try to make that happen is by taking them to brunch at Two Urban Licks and then stepping out directly from the restaurant on to the beltline for a nice long scooter ride passing cool murals and the city skyline. Atlanta houses some incredible artists to check for. Shout out to Myra Green, Fabian Williams a.k.a. Occasional Superstar and Fahamu Pecou, a few artists whose work I always love to share. We then would go pick up some of the best smelling body butters, soaps and candles hand made by @T.Tarice . Then get our swag on with a stylish hat crafted by @Fruition before going out to dinner at one of my favorite places, Optimist where you can find amazing sea food including one of the best Lobster rolls in town. For a late night hang, pre COVID, you could have found me on a Friday night at Sound Table droppin’ it like it’s hot to Afro House music being spun by @djkemit at Sound Table on Edgewood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Both of my parent’s, Ayoka Chenzira and Thomas Osha Pinnock, two incredible artists who gave me the freedom, flexibility and support to create and discover my own magic to be able to help make the world a better place.
