We had the good fortune of connecting with Genevieve Wilhelm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genevieve, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“I am going to make everything around me beautiful – that will be my life.” – Elsie de Wolfe

As an interior designer this quote resonates so deeply with me. I’ve always admired beauty-whether that be in artwork, fashion, nature, or an environment. In a world that so often dwells on the negative, I choose to find and celebrate the beautiful things. For me that looks like a lot of different things- from literally stopping and smelling the roses, or hosting my family for holidays so we can create memories together, or admiring different architecture from around the world. As an interior designer I get to create beautiful spaces and environments for people to live in and enjoy. The space I design can have a significant impact on someone’s life and so I am always honored when someone allows me to partner with them in creating their own version of a beautiful space.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love where I live! Chattanooga, TN truly has it all and I love getting to share it with my family and friends. It’s the perfect size city to where you have amazing restaurants, entertainment, and activities, but you don’t have to deal with crazy traffic or violence like a larger city.

No trip to Chattanooga would be complete without going to Rock City. Nestled on top of Lookout Mountain, you can see seven different states and the gardens and natural formations are absolutely beautiful. Chattanooga has a huge food scene so I have to keep a list of all the new restaurants popping up that I want to visit next! One of my favorite places to eat in town is Public House, I’ve tried almost everything on their menu and everything is delectable. And because I have a sweet tooth, I always suggest a trip to The Hot Chocolatier for an orange hot chocolate- yum!

We have an amazing assortment of outdoor hiking trails along rivers and waterfalls that we could spend days exploring. If that’s not your thing, there’s no shortage of music venues that are always highlighting local artists.

There are so many little neighborhoods that each have their own individual style. The Bluff View Arts District is a personal favorite because it’s overlooking the river and is home to the Hunter Art Museum and Rembrandts Coffee Shop.

Chattanooga is home to the longest pedestrian bridge, the Walnut Street Bridge, so I love taking a walk through Cooledge park, across the bridge to grab an ice cream cone at Clumpies while watching the sunset over the river.

It’s no wonder that Chattanooga continually makes the top of the list of best places to live.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a shout out to my parents. I am so blessed to have two loving parents who always encouraged me to find out what I was passionate about and supported it. I knew I wanted to be an interior designer ever since I was young, and my parents would constantly find ways to foster my love for design. I remember one Christmas in particular, I opened up my present to find a paint deck and I was told that I could paint my room any color I wanted! I was around 12 or 13 at the time so I chose a pale pink that paired perfectly with the “Parisian chic” theme that was every pre-teen girls dream. They encouraged me to pursue art classes to further develop my creativity. I never felt pressured to be an athlete or to go into a career that I didn’t want- they allowed me to discover what I was passionate about and helped me in any way that I could. I know of so many people that don’t love what they do, and I never take for granted that I am so blessed to have found my purpose in life and get to do it every day.
