We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Engdahl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was a leap of faith, I recently had my daughter and decided that there is more to life than fitting the mold of a 9-5 job. I’ve always dreamed of becoming my own creative boss, offering flexibility to homeschool my children and to cultivate what matters within my community and within my home.
What should our readers know about your business?
Beyond Planning Events is a boutique wedding and events company located in Suwanee, Georgia.
My brands motto is “to show love in everything you do with love.” We serve one another humbly with love. Even the tiniest detail matters. Our talented creative partners will go above and BEYOND your experience with us by showing grace, intentionality, and humility. We believe in taking your vision to create the perfect experience with intention and grace.
It took me almost ten years to get where I am today. The journey was not easy, but there are always going to be challenges-it is similar to your journey as a parent. There is no perfect way to parent, you just need to show your kids that they are loved, stay true to who they are, and to always learn and grow each day. Being an entrepreneur, there is no perfect journey to run a business. Learn to love yourself, stay true to who you are, find ways to grow and show grace to yourself and towards others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am still learning more and more about Georgia myself! There is so much to eat, drink and visit in Atlanta. I’m a huge foodie, so I would take them to visit my favorite food spots! For breakfast comfort food, it will be Maple Street Biscuit and Company and then shopping at Personify Shop in downtown Duluth. For some great lunch and dinner spots, I’d recommend K Pop for korean bbq, Dan Moo Ji for Spicy Rice cakes and kimbap, Simfull (쉼풀) for delicious porridge and kimbap (my favorites are the spicy squid and anchovies) Sambong Naengmyun the oxtail soup and naengmyen are both divine, bb.q Chicken for some fried chicken, Ding Tea or Tiger Sugar for a boba tea fix.
For the any season, Stone mountain is a great place for hiking and the views.
During Oktoberfest and the holiday season- Helen, Georgia is a fun and festive place to visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost nothing would have been remotely possible without my supportive, loving husband. He is “my person”, mentor, and the person always rooting for me in my corner. He is always down for the cause and will jump in whenever or wherever I need him. He is a jack of all trades, a wonderful father to our beautiful children, my number one fan, and camera guy to step in for my branding and behind the scenes footage. My business would not have been possible without his love and support.
