We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Reede and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eva, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I didn’t originally plan on being a wedding and branding photographer for my career. Five years ago I was on course to becoming a holistic research scientist. I entered the field to help women who struggled with infertility and hormonal imbalances. While I enjoyed the challenge of pursuing this career, door after door closed on me and it seemed as though I was forcing something that was not meant to be. I ended up taking a break from my studies and never turned back.

I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset. I knew that I wanted to be the one setting the tone for my work style, creative approach, and overall lifestyle. Having worked as a marketing photographer for a large non-profit, I got to experience what corporate life looks like. Although I learned a lot in that position and met some amazing people, I discovered that working in an office was not for me. I really value the opportunities I have now to follow my own creative processes in my business.

What really inspired me to work for myself was the freedom to create when I felt most creative and work with clients that were just as excited to work with me as I was to work with them. These are some of the factors that led me to start my own business.

I became a photographer to serve and bless people with beautiful images they’ll cherish forever. My goal is to create art that is meaningful and original. The kind of art that can hang on your walls forever and remind you of the precious moments you never want to forget. I find so much happiness in capturing people at times when they are experiencing immense joy and passion. It’s so important to me to approach each occasion with intentionality so my clients can relive their special moments for years to come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that sets me apart from others is my journey to becoming the photographer I am today. I started shooting in high school for fun, but my subject was mostly nature. My boyfriend (now husband) and I would take our cameras out almost weekly and take photos of landscapes, camping set ups, waterfalls, and more. I thought that if I ever made it as a photographer, I would be a travel or adventure brand photographer. As time went on, I started photographing the people around me and began to fall in love with capturing details and emotion. I’ve played around with different aspects of a photo career. This included professionally editing for other photographers and creative agencies around the globe, working as a marketing photographer, and even teaming up with nonprofits.

Each direction I took with photography ended up teaching me more about what I wanted and sharpened my skills. Editing for others taught me how much you can do with a photo to make it come alive. Working in a corporate setting taught me about deadlines, clientele, and studio set ups. As I honed my skills, my love of photographing people in an intentional way continued to grow and I ended up being more attracted to weddings and branding work.

Presently, I am a wedding, elopement, and branding photographer. My photography is elegant, emotive, and timeless. I work with couples to document their love and brands to capture their vision. Right now, I am expanding into other markets beyond my local cities. As my business continues to grow, as does my passion for serving people around the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Alpharetta area! As someone who values health but loves food, I would take my friend a few of my favorite food places. Alpharetta has some of the yummiest gluten and dairy free food options. I love True Food Kitchen, Valor Coffee and 2B Whole!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out Sarah Coleman. Sarah is one of the best photographers I know and one of my closest friends. She is not only extremely talented but she is genuine and uplifting to everyone that crosses her path. I’ve had the privilege of working with her on various occasions and it’s truly inspiring how she approaches each session and wedding day with pure intentionality for her clients. She has a way of noticing the beauty in every moment and every person. In the time that I’ve known her, I have seen first hand what it means to create not only art, but a business that builds people up. I would not be where I am today without Sarah.
