We had the good fortune of connecting with Ericka Cameron-Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ericka, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
In the past, my life was so busy that I had to pencil in time for myself. The pandemic has been devastating but it has also been very liberating for me. It has given me uninterrupted time with my family and the freedom to redefine myself as the world transitions.

Living my bravest truth every day is how I find balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a creative. I work on different projects throughout the year, some are towards my non-profit, others are entrepreneur endeavors.

I could list off several traits that may set me apart from others but I truly believe it’s the message being expressed through me that radiates. It’s the magic we’re all born with that activates when we respond to a call. The message is no different from others in the personal growth arena however certain groups of people will only resonate with a message delivered by you.

In this moment of my life, I am most excited about the repatterning and evolution taking place within and around me. It feels like spring, joy, instincts, alignment, and possibilities.

How did I get where I am professionally? By feeling extremely dissatisfied in the corporate world and having an immense desire to move my creative contributions where it was best suited. Once I had that revelation, I began planning my out.

The challenges I’ve faced are financial uncertainty, disbelief in myself and my qualifications, a lack of courage, researching more than acting, avoidance, and the list goes on and on. My calling was given to me 12 years ago, I put it on pause for 7, before actively pursuing it. And the thirst only came once not pursuing my dreams felt unbearable.

I’ve learned a ton of lessons along the way but I would like to offer a suggestion. Create a life vision then allow the vision to inform every decision you make.

The one message Jo-Anne’s House, Inc. would like the world to embrace is, housing is a human right, not a privilege.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d advise my friend to come around Labor Day.

– We would go to Callaway Gardens Hot Air Balloon Festival
– We would have lunch at Iron Age, brunch at Negril & Poor Calvin’s, dinner at Rock Steady & Hattie Marie’s BBQ.
– Rent a boat and hang out with friends on the lake

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout courage; she has brought me strength in vulnerability, inspiration, higher intuition, expansion, shown me grace, patience, spoke truth, and provided reassurance and unconditional love.
