We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica + Anna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica + Anna, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Setting our goals and intentions for the week. Every Monday we do an exercise called the Monday Magic Method that our business coach put together. It has helped us accomplish the small goals, the enormous ones we thought we’d never get to, and everything else in between. Our brains work so differently so it’s helped the two of us focus on the same objectives.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’re a fun-loving leather goods company that dreams up and creates all of our items in our Ponce City Market studio. We utilize playful accents like turquoise edged straps, vibrant colored leathers, and hand marbled patterns— while always keeping a keen eye on functionality. When it comes to handmade leather goods, most things on the market are very utilitarian. We wanted to make something more feminine, more colorful, more exciting. Building our brand has been one huge learning curve. There’s so much you don’t know when you start- little things about running a business, big things like sourcing the best materials to use for certain projects, sharpening tools, what machinery to invest in, etc. In our field, a lot of people keep their hard-earned knowledge to themselves, and it’s not always easy to find the answers we need if something goes wrong! But, that has really pushed us to constantly be learning and growing; reading, googling and reaching out to a few very generous friends we’ve made who gladly help guide us in the right direction. It’s all a process!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I guess we should pretend like this is a pre-COVID world 😆. And if that were the case, first thing is to hop on a bike and ride down to Victory Sandwich Bar. Grab an Amer Amigo and cruise all over town bar hopping and hanging with friends until nightfall. Then we would order to-go food from Carroll Street Cafe and sit on one of our porches until we couldn’t stay awake any longer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow. We are so lucky that there are many people in our lives who have encouraged and mentored us. Our biggest champions are our friends. They were there for us when it was just us two working in a basement, they’ve shown up to help at every market we participate in, and they always have wine in tow.
