We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Schmitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Candy and my 5 year old daughter, Penelope. I create some magical things with candy, but she is the greatest thing I have ever created. She makes me laugh (and sometimes cry – wink wink) and smile bigger than anyone else. Watching her grow and experience the world is magical. Candy is also such a happy thing. It’s nostalgic. One bite can transport you in time to the sweetest memory. I work to sweeten the world one candy board at a time!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ATL Boards is a candy board company based out of Atlanta, GA. We source the best tasting and most unique candy from around the world and curate it (in a reusable acrylic tray) in a stylish and thematic way. We bring you a unique and elevated candy experience unlike any other. Candy never looked so good with ATL Boards! Don’t forget, we ship everywhere in the USA! So getting candy delivered right to your doorstep is just that easy.
I’m so proud of where ATL Boards is today and can’t wait to see what the future holds. We are growing rapidly and I’m constantly challenging myself to create and be better. It’s a lot of hard work, dedication and perseverance. There are high highs and low lows, but I remind myself what Jay Glazer said. “You never know what’s around next Tuesday.” I play that over and over in my head every day.
One of my proudest moments was being picked up by Saks.com. But I also burst with pride during the smaller, more private moments. Like when a customer tells me how their candy board made their birthday special.
I want to get as many people to experience ATL Boards as possible! That is my challenge and something I will chip away at every day!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this question!
Things to see/do would be:
*Walk the beltline and stop at Ponce City Market for a King of Pop
*Visit the High Museum and search for Monet and Matisse among so many others
*Atlanta Botanical Garden: Take it all in and don’t miss the Chihuly glass
Night out:
Drinks at the St. Regis bar or a tequila flight at the Atlas bar
Dinner at Umi
Lunch:
Le Bilboquet: Glass of wine (rose), tuna tartare and french fries
Rina: Sit outside in a casual setting enjoy a fun cocktail in a very aesthetic pink cup with some delicious food. Lots to share!
Saturday Morning:
Check out the Peachtree Road Farmer’s Market. Get the most delicious croissant from Little Tart, pick up some beautiful farm grown flowers, and grab a coffee enjoy and relax
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Success starts with “you”. But, it isn’t just about “you”. There are so many people that come in and out of your life that impact the trajectory and successes and failures.
I want to thank every single ATL Boards customer. Without them I wouldn’t be here. They trusted, supported, and encouraged me and to them I am forever grateful. I work hard every day to bring my customers the best products on the market so they can have a unique and elevated candy experience.
I must also mention my husband, Matt. For without him I wouldn’t be pushing forward every day. He encourages and supports me. When times get tough and I feel like it’s too hard, he reminds me that if it were easy everyone would do it. He reminds me what it is like to be different. To stand out and take risks others are too afraid to. I am so thankful to have him as a partner in this crazy game called life.
