We had the good fortune of connecting with EJ Rodmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi EJ, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is to have a catalogue of music that connects with people on a deep level, and lasts generations. While obviously, my goal is to reach as many people with my music as possible, at this point in my life, it’s more about making sure the people that I do reach are able to fully experience the music I create and do things like help them get through the tough times in life, and be the soundtrack for the happier moments as well. And in the end, something that gets passed on for generations and generations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like what sets me apart from others is my drive and ambition for what I do. I’ve been doing music for the past 11 years now so the passion I have for music is indescribable. With that being said anytime I write a song, perform, creating cover art, I give my all into making sure it’s the best it can be because it means everything to me. Another thing I feel that sets me apart is the variety of influences I have. On one end, I’m inspired by people like Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, The Nicholas Brothers, and then on the other end, I’m inspired by people like Lil Baby, Drake, and Young Thug. And I feel like having all of those influences mixed together creates a sound that is different from what people usually hear. I’ve learned that can be a challenge as much as it is a blessing. I overcome those challenges by focusing on the blessings as well as focusing on the reasons I love music so much. Being an independent artist today comes with so many challenges as it is so sometimes when it does get a little overwhelming, I go back to all those people who I was influenced by, and it sparks that inspiration and motivation all over again for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not gonna lie, only places I really go in the city are the studio, performance spots, and basketball courts. But if someone was to come to visit the city, I’d probably take them to Atlantic Station.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to the most high, the small amount of success that I have had at this point would not be possible without him. Also big shoutout to another great artist that is crazy underrated, Lewis Raye. He was pretty much my mentor in the VERY early days. Helped me with my vocals, songwriting, and a lot of other stuff that made me the artist I am today. Anyone reading this should definitely check him out. And the biggest shoutout to everyone who supports me with this music thing man. I really do appreciate the love you guys always show, it keeps me going.
