We had the good fortune of connecting with Edward Boey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edward, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have two on this, one on the earlier one before, where I rush into starting my own business and it failed miserably and forced me to go back to work.
From there I try again after working awhile I start again to start something on my own again.
What my company name is Newwave Synchronizer Sdn Bhd and we are specialized in Web Development, Maintenance, and Digital Marketing. The idea behind this is where Newwave brings in the technology to be synchronized with the current trend and helping business to adapt in challenging times.
The idea behind is no matter how small the service is like registering a domain name, as long as somehow it helps in the long term recurring income of the company we are happy to do that as doing a business in long term is key and vital for success.
Another thing to keep it successful we need to be able to strive to keep learning as being in the space of technology we need to be able to keep learning and improving. Spot opportunities and quickly give it a try. Without trying we will never know if that sector will work or fail.
Lastly it’s the passion that we are doing as well, if we are not passionate about what we do and the team we hire that is also not interested in what they do, the business will not thrive. It’s a combination of continuity, perseverance, and undying passion to keep the business going so that this whole journey we are going through is a fun adventure to go through.
We only got 1 life, why not enjoy it and do what we can with it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started with just website development. Over time, we added other services like domain name purchase, hosting management for clients, web maintenance, digital marketing, and eventually, customized software development.
As we grew, we noticed that many traditional agencies in Malaysia don’t have dedicated web development teams. To address this, we partnered with several of these agencies so they wouldn’t need to set up a web department, allowing us to handle the technical challenges for them.
I’m proud and excited about the nature of this business, where we can work in almost any industry. We’ve developed websites for a diverse range of clients, including developers, government bodies, shopping malls, and individual business owners. It’s always thrilling to see how we can contribute to the digital growth of different industries.
Getting to where we are today hasn’t been easy. In the beginning, it was challenging when no one knew who we were, and we didn’t have established processes for building websites. As we evolved, we found our niche in supporting agencies, which brought us more consistent and long-term work. The key lesson for me has been the importance of flexibility to adapt and learn—without it, we wouldn’t have reached this point.
The lessons we’ve learned along the way include never underestimating people, as your customers are the pillars of your business. Stand firm in your beliefs, but also be open to new ideas; you never know which ones will work. Always test and review your work to ensure it’s effective.
In today’s world, I believe that everyone should be online, or at least start as early as possible. It’s never too late to begin. While you may not see immediate results, the key is to be patient and focus on finding your niche to grow your online presence.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend is coming over, I would take them to do the following:
Morning: Morningside Nature Preserve
Start your Atlanta adventure with a refreshing dose of nature at Morningside Nature Preserve. This urban oasis offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you’re up for a leisurely morning walk or a more vigorous hike, the winding trails, local wildlife, and fresh air will set the perfect tone for the day.
Lunch: Toast on Lenox
After working up an appetite on the trails, make your way to Toast on Lenox for a well-deserved brunch. This trendy spot is known for its creative and flavorful dishes. Treat yourself to one of their signature toasts, like the avocado toast topped with a fried egg, or savor the sweet potato pancakes drizzled with maple syrup. With a variety of egg dishes, salads, and sandwiches, there’s something here to satisfy any craving.
Afternoon: Explore Lenox Square
With brunch done, spend the afternoon exploring Lenox Square, a high-end shopping mall offering a mix of stores and restaurants. If shopping isn’t on your agenda, you can unwind in the mall’s outdoor seating area or catch a movie at the AMC theater.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are three important aspects that have shaped who I am today:
First is my family. They never stopped me from pursuing what I wanted to do in life and even encouraged me to try new things. Without their support, I believe I would be a much less happy person today.
Second is my mentor, Elango Thiyagu. He guided me when I was young and was incredibly patient with me. When we start out, we often don’t know where to begin, and he was there to guide me every step of the way.
Third is the environment at ET Ideas Group, where a community of successful entrepreneurs comes together to support each other’s growth. Here, I’ve learned the importance of giving back, which has kept me from becoming self-centered. This environment has also taught me about collaboration, which has greatly influenced how I run my business.
