Meet Edsel ” TreAce” Alexander III | Grammy Nominated Songwriter/ Music Supervisor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Edsel ” TreAce” Alexander III and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edsel ” TreAce”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is progress. You will not be able to discover what God has for you without Risk and faith. I personally don’t think of anything as a risk, I believe it is an opportunity. In life you there are moments that determine your future. I believe you have the choice to either move or stay stagnant. When I heard that Executive Producer Ava DuVernay was on Club house looking for new composers for her show, I instantly declined shooting my shot. I didn’t know that this opportunity would change my life. I was able to lock in my first major music supervisor position for a tv series called “Home Sweet Home” on NBC. The risk came when they were having a small intimate premier at her studio, I knew i had to go. I spent 1k just on a flight from ATL to LA just to meet her ( I was only in LA for 9 hours). I knew if I met her I could possible get more opportunities. That’s exactly what happened. I was able to speak with her in person and let her know what i was trying to accomplished and she allowed me to work on 2 more of her shows. Sometimes you have to go for it all to get the opportunity you are looking for.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to music supervising, my style is different. I am a songwriter by heart, I know how to tell stories. I know how to create the vibe. I can understand a producers direction and how music can bring that to life.
What I am most excited about is I am just getting started. I feel like I put in the time and the work and now it is all coming together. I believe that i am on this earth to help others and because of the hard work, myself and others, have been putting in, I am now in position to give others the opportunity to accomplish their dreams.
This road was not easy. It’s a lot of fluff in this industry. Luckily I’ve always surrounded myself with great people and always been a team player. It’s not the talent that will take you far, its your relationships. Everyone is talented.
As a CEO of V3 publishing and a songwriter, I am always looking to collaborate with the next generation of creatives. I am always looking to provide opportunities and make it easier for the next talent to break through this industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am know as the life of the party. I work hard and party hard. There are so many place. But if there wanted to visit ATL, the first place we are going is Cheetah. Good food, great environment 🙂 after that I would patronize with my friends who own lounges and clubs out there. Anywhere I am at is a good time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God is first and foremost! I want to dedicate this to everyone who pushes me and believes in me. Also, everyone that I work with.
