We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Rice and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was, to work for myself. Honestly, anyone who starts a business goal is to be free from “Corporate America” and moving to the beat of someone else’s drum. I’m going to be “Fashionably Free” and make my own rules.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well lets start from the beginning! Number A I was born in New York, but Georgia raised. Ever since i was a husky pre-teen I have always loved fashion. The love grew even more so when my mom started taking me to the “Ebony Fashion Fair show” and I was able to see very fashionable plus size models. From that point on I was obsessed with every fashion related movie and tv show. However, learning to dress my size was harder because clothing options were limited and all the more popular styles were for smaller sizes. Fast forward to after high school I tried getting a job at Express Women, but yet again “size matters”. Express at the time (2001) hired women that could wear there clothing and the biggest size they had was a size 8. No my apologizes, you could work in the back (stocking) but not in the front. However, Express Men hired me, and that’s were I learned a man’s clothing size just by looking at them. I learned to create my style by mixing the styles of Express men and women’s basic’s. That was the birth of Emilydidit, I just didnt know it at the time.

Styling became my passion and I moved to Atlanta in 2012. I was bless with one of the top designers in Atlanta Vanessa Miller”The House of Van Miller” to be my mentor. From there I started freelance styling and quickly picked up clients, and landed a job as Lead Fashion Consultant for EncoreHD hair Magazine. I was responsible for making sure all looks were camera ready before they hit the canvas. This is where I acquired the name “Emily” by Editor in Chief Larry J. Stephens, in homage to the team’s favorite fashion movie “The Devil Wears Prada.”

In 2021 I relaunched my business in Henderson, NV “Emilydidit, LLC” an Androgynous style company. People would describe me as someone with “a fun and quirky sense of humor, who is a joy to work with and be around. Which is the energy I put into my outfits for my clients. Allowing them to be at ease, I think that alone sets me apart from other stylist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, because I live in “Sin City” that’s hard, between the gambling, partying and alcohol where do you start. lol However, I would start it off super cute by going to “Lola’s Cafe”. Lot’s of cute pictures for IG and the drinks and food are amazing. Then my next spot would be “Area 15”, now this place is huge and options seem endless. You have whiskey tours, zip lining, sky lift etc…Oh and because temperatures can be as high as 120 here the Ice Bar in the Mandalay Bay is the perfect place to cool off. Everything is made out of ice, down to the glass you drink out of.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Neka Nash Johnson, Owner and CEO of Butter & Scents, LLC a homemade. Neka has been such a driving force and supportive friend. The ups and downs you experience as an Entrepreneur is not easy. So when you have a friend that just gets it and continues to motivate and support you. You in turn want to show the same appreciation.
