We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Tamirah Leigh Terry, PhD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr Tamirah Leigh, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to do something that I enjoyed doing so branding as a Lifestyle Company just seemed like the appropriate choice. I have been deemed the Black version of Martha Stewart because I do so many things 😊. And, they all bring me so much joy because I love creating.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tamirah Leigh Lifestyle Design is a reflection of me. I am a girly girl and truly enjoy the things that most girls like whether, it’s food, party planning, decorating, ambience, style, romance or fashion. I was one Who knew what I wanted to do but didn’t decide until later in life how I wanted to do it. I didn’t have any real mentors but I had dreams. So I researched and I studied and then just did it. Many years I volunteered to assist others with their business so I could learn. Other times I decorated people’s homes or designed and hosted their events or parties for free to create a resume of experience. It wasn’t easy to get people to hire me when I had no experience but it was easy when you volunteered and offered free labor. It’s one of the prices I was willing to pay to gain the experience. What I have learned along the way is never to compare my progress with that of others. This is my personal race against me and the time frame I establish for myself. I’ve learned that no matter how saturated the industry is. I am the only me who has what I have to offer mankind and no one can create what God has given me to offer the world. I have learned that it’s never too late to try something new as long as you’re up for the challenges that go along with it. It’s never too late to reinvent yourself. I want people to know that everything my brand represents is a reflection of my personal touches with them in mind. My journey is part of my plan. They have a journey and it’s part of their plan. A key indication for the direction of their journey would be to focus on what you enjoy doing and would do even if you were not paid to do it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My bestie will be visiting for my birthday and we will be visiting Marietta. The Square has so much culture not to mention the different mom and pop shops with authentic food and desserts. We will also make our way into Midtown where there are restaurants and now that the weather is warmer, A grassy knoll that usually brings photo op attractions. I am a people watcher and I love watching people enjoy themselves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutouts are to my children and my cousin, Dr. Jackie Duncan. They have been my biggest encouragers, supporters over the years who believed in me and all of my dreams.
