We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kiana Dancie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Kiana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Baggage Claim Worldwide was a deeply personal decision for me. I had faced significant challenges in my life, from surviving child molestation to losing my dream job as a nationally syndicated talk show host, and enduring a long-term relationship that didn’t lead to marriage. These experiences weighed heavily on me, both emotionally and mentally.

A pivotal moment came when I decided to undergo plastic surgery to remove the bags under my eyes. This was more than just a cosmetic change for me; it was a symbolic act of shedding the weight of my past. As I healed externally, I realized I needed to address the internal baggage I was carrying. This led me to therapy, self-reflection, and ultimately, a journey of healing.

Through this process, I discovered the power of releasing emotional baggage and the importance of patience, self-compassion, and support in healing. I wanted to create a platform where other women could experience the same transformation. That’s why I founded Baggage Claim Worldwide. It’s about empowering women to release their emotional baggage, connect with others facing similar struggles, and embrace their divine right to happiness, healing, and wholeness. Through this conference, I aim to provide a supportive space for women to share, connect, and heal together, just as I have.

Additionally, I just completed my TEDx talk in Gaborone, Botswana, Africa. This experience was profound and life-altering, and it reinforced my commitment to helping women worldwide through Baggage Claim Worldwide. Sharing my journey and insights on such an esteemed platform was an honor, and I hope to continue spreading my message of resilience and empowerment globally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m thrilled to share more about my art and journey with you. My work is a blend of comedy, motivational speaking, and mental health advocacy. What sets me apart is my unique ability to use humor as a tool for healing and empowerment. I believe laughter is a powerful force that can break down barriers and create connections, which is why I infuse it into everything I do, whether I’m on stage performing standup, delivering a keynote speech, or writing books.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my women’s empowerment conference, Baggage Claim Worldwide. This initiative is dedicated to helping women release their emotional baggage and achieve their full potential. It’s a reflection of my own journey of overcoming personal struggles and finding the strength to heal and thrive. Seeing the impact it has on other women’s lives is incredibly rewarding and drives me to keep pushing forward.

My professional journey has been far from easy. I’ve faced numerous challenges, including surviving child molestation, losing my dream job, and dealing with the end of a long-term relationship. These experiences could have broken me, but instead, they became the catalyst for my transformation. I underwent therapy, engaged in deep self-reflection, and used humor as a coping mechanism, which eventually became a cornerstone of my work.

Overcoming these challenges required resilience, determination, and a strong support system. I learned that healing is a process that requires patience and self-compassion. One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of embracing your vulnerabilities and using them as a source of strength. This mindset shift has allowed me to connect deeply with others and make a meaningful impact through my work.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we are dedicated to helping women find their power and voice. My story is one of resilience and transformation, and I hope it inspires others to embark on their own journeys of healing and empowerment. Whether through my comedy, speaking engagements, or my nonprofit organization B.A.G.S (Becoming A Guiltless Survivor), my mission is to create a world where women can release their emotional baggage and live their fullest, happiest lives.
