We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Janelle Davison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Janelle, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I make that has always contributed to my success is “I bet on myself.” No matter what challenge is put in front of me I bet on myself. I know that as long as I am walking on God’s path and doing the work I will reach my goals. Thus, my formula success is Confidence + Faith. I am one of the few private minority female-owned private optometry practices in Cobb County. I started my practice “cold” in 2010 during one of the worst economic recessions and my practice is surviving and thriving in a global pandemic.

What should our readers know about your business?

I am an expert optometrist with over 15 years’ experience in eye health and prevention, specializing in dry eye disease and optometry aesthetics.  I am an award-winning and nationally recognized eye care provider: Optometry Divas 2021 Thought Leader of the Year, finalist of the Women in Technology Woman of the Year Science Award in 2020, 2019 National Coalition of 100 Black Women honoree Impact on Health and 2018 Xavier University of Louisiana’s 40 Under 40. I founded Brilliant Eyes Vision Center a modern, chic, and tech-savvy optometric practice in the Summer of 2010. Brilliant Eyes Vision Center is an independent provider of professional eye care services and products. My practice specializes in Ocular Surface Disease, Dry Eye, and Optometry Aesthetics. We utilize the latest technology to help patients determine the root cause of their ocular discomfort and help get them on the road to younger clearer whiter eyes. In 2018, I founded Premier Dry Eye & Cosmetic Eye Care, which is located inside of my Smyrna optical boutique. We offer advanced ocular surface disease and dry eye treatments in a spa-like setting. The Global Covid Pandemic has patients wearing masks up to 8 hours per day. Research has shown that wearing masks for the last 2 years has created an increased number of people experiencing dry, red, and irritated eyes (mask-associate dry eye-M.A.D.E.). In March of 2021, we implemented Intense Pulse Light Therapy treatments (ThermaEye Plus IPL) into our eye spa. Our technology relieves dry eye symptoms by utilizing pulses of light to reduce eyelid redness and stimulate healthy gland function as well as stimulate collagen production to enhance the skin and tissue around the eyes. The eye spa service menu also includes customized facial treatments performed by our Georgia licensed esthetician. In my practice, we help our patients understand there is a connection between skincare and eye health, we believe eye care is self-care.

I am always thinking ahead and looking at global trends in the optical industry and other industries with a synergist relationship to eye health. Making the transition to incorporate an eye spa into my practice was surprisingly easy.
In 2018, I was one of the first optometrists to embark on this journey, my experience was featured on Optometry’s #1 Podcast, Defocus Media. Recently, this year I rebranded my eye spa to focus on advanced dry eye treatments, nonsurgical aesthetic enhancements, and skincare services that complement my patients’ goals of achieving clearer, whiter, younger eyes and skin. Partnering with a licensed esthetician has allowed my practice to expand our service menu. We launched in November 2018, and we hit the ground running. It was such an easy transition that I am partnering with another industry-leading optometrist in dry eye and aesthetics, to create The Dry Eye & OD Aesthetics virtual academy, set to launch in quarter 1 2022. The goal is to show other eye care providers how to implement this unique experience in their practices.

My practice concept is unique and inspiring. I am very passionate about creating an environment where patients can embark on a journey to greater skin and eye wellness. I am happy I decided to get off the sidelines and provide a safe and convenient space for my patients to indulge in anti-aging face and ocular enhancements as well as receive specialty dry eye and ocular surface disease treatments.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow! Atlanta has so many fun things to offer. I am a wife, mom, and business owner so my time to hang out in the city is sparse. However, my hubby and I like to go to the Smyrna-Vinings area to eat at the Orient Express, we love Sushi and Habbichi or to Truist park to grab a bite to eat at Yard House.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Jimmie L. Davison, JR. PMP is my rock and business partner. In January of 2021, he left his corporate America job of 20 years as a project manager, managing million dollar projects to bring his skills & talents to our family business. We share the same goal and vision to create a legacy for our family and create a powerful impact in the optical industry and our community.
