We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr.J and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr.J, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m From a little town in Alabama called Shawmut. I’m from the Westside of that area, West Shawmut. I had a humble upbringing raised by a single mom. Didn’t have the best of things, and I was mostly a loner as a kid. I wrote raps and played basketball all through school. Never did anything social or after school. But somehow I won The Who”s who category in my Jr.High School Year book under “Most Ambitious”. Til this day I don’t know who saw this in me and ported the win. But I am very ambitious. And I just realized it a few years ago.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently I am C.E.O of two business First one is Majic Bladez Barbershop & Gym LLC. My goal was to fuse my barbershop with a Gym and I’m still working on a partnership of finding myself a gym. So if there’s anyone out there who would like to talk business don’t hesitate to reach out. Secondly I also operate my 7 Shades SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) service. Where I travel the country to service clients who wish to have the procedure of creating a baldhead into a low even haircut look. And for women who are thinning or balding. If you want to know more about it, please visit my website @ www.7shadessmp.com
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Atlanta , honestly we would hit some of the hottest nightclubs. Go to a good hibachi restaurant or Korean Bar B Q. Go to top golf, or the painted pin etc. ride through downtown Atlanta.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I had been kicked out of the Airforce for smoking marijuana, so I was back home trying to figure out my next move. I was 23. I was in this Barbershop my friend introduced me to. And the owner asked me do I want to learn to be a barber. His name is Jerry Bronson at All Masters aka JB & Co. Barber Studio in Union City, GA. 30+ years in business. JB introduced me to the craft and mentored me through barbering and taught me a lot about life in general. I will always recognize him for teaching me so much. Thanks Bro. 1Love.
