We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Falami Devoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Falami, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Holistic Alchemy was birthed from my personal health challenges and the calling to embrace a holistic lifestyle which meant creating a sustainable self-care plan for my mind body and spirit. I am passionate about connecting with women and sharing my well-being journey. I found that many women related to my experiences of body dissatisfaction and challenging relationships with food. So, I wanted to utilize my Holistic coaching training and my personal experiences to educate them on nutrition, body diversity and alternative or complementary ways to take care of oneself. Instead of the traditional, Westernized ideas which treats the body with prescriptions, I share sound healing, reiki and mindful practices with my clients.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Holistic Alchemy is a healing company providing conversations, consultations, coaching, and other services to promote positive, liberating, and sustainable self-care practices. There are personal trainers who help individuals with their physical goals. There are financial coaches who help people manage their finances. Well, I am a self-care coach who addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of a person. I create personalized sustainable self-care prescriptions. Not only do I create this prescription but I also will be a support to ensure that you are following through with the prescription. I want people to go beyond the hashtag self-care and really make it a consistent and sustainable practice.
What is also special about my company is that I offer Sister Circles. These circles are centered around the individual and collective healing of Black women.
The circle intends to uplift and embrace the voices of Black women’s lived experiences. Recognizing the complexity and sensitivity of the lived, gendered, racialized body experiences of Black women, Sister Circle of Care offers opportunities for healing and liberation in the community. I love holding space with women to just be who they are.
For over 25 years, I have had some type of business. I come from a lineage of Educators, Homemakers, Railroad workers so I am not really sure where I get this entrepreneurial spirit. But, I love the ability to create and design especially if it is something that I am passionate and knowledgable about. My business affords me the opportunity to do that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I would take them to Jeju Korean Day Spa. We would spend hours relaxing in the saunas, hot tub, and pool. I would then take her to see the art murals around the city, starting in Hapeville then making my way to the Old Fourth Ward area.
We would go to the High Museum and then Eclipse Di Luna
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my family here in Atlanta and my family in Ohio and Indiana. Over the years, they have been such a huge supporters and cheerleaders. Whether it was helping to set up at an event or whether it was a post or share on social media,or buying my products or sending a referral, they are invested in the success and legacy of Holistic Alchemy. Thank you to Funmi, Bryttani, Chris, Tabetha, Kayela, Tade, and Dell . I love you!
