We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Diana A. Watley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Diana, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
One of the values that’s most important to me is, “To thy own self be true”. In a world where people look on social media to decide who they will become. In a world where people jump from career to career based off of the successes they see others have. In a world where people wake up daily trying to outdo someone else, the one thing that has kept me succeeding and winning is being true to the woman I am and who I’m called to be. And never feeling the need to waiver based on what’s going on around me and what’s trending in the world.
What should our readers know about your business?
Well I’m what you would consider a serial entrepreneur. And no diss to people that choose to work but not only is time the most valuable commodity but when I became a mom I realized that I could never leave my job to my daughter. For lack of a better word, I have a hustler’s spirit. I work hard so why wouldn’t I do it my way, on my own time and earn what I’m worth. I run four (4) businesses namely, DIANA A. WATLEY ENTERPRISES, LLC., where I’ve served as an Empowerment Speaker, Advocate & Life Coach for almost 17 years now. I also have a non-profit organization based off of the legacy of my deceased grandmother where I help moms become self sufficient and become entrepreneurs. Two years ago I launch a production company to bring impactful and inspiring media to the television and airwaves. And I run a full service life insurance agency which also provides education to families about the power of leaving a financial blueprint for our children and our children’s children. And yes it was hard. But EVERYTHING in life that’s worth having will bring challenges. But the challenges are worth it once you see your dreams realized. The one thing I’d love people to learn from my successes and failures is that hard work pays off. You can either work hard or make excuses. And I’ve never seen an excuse feed you, your children, your dreams or your family.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from the great city of Atlanta so when go out I do the same things and go to the same places. But if I had a friend in town on Sunday we’d attend a church service at Wings of Faith where Bishop Dreyfus Smith presides over the house. I love to cook so I’d cook them a home cooked Sunday meal. On Monday we’d likely go to the spa or have my private masseuse to pamper us. Tuesday, we’d do lunch at Restaurant 10 and dinner at Baltimore Crab and Seafood. Wednesday I’d have to chill because I run four businesses and hanging out every night doesn’t work for all that’s on my plate. Thursday we’d go to Mulans Asian Cuisine because I’m a regular there and Friday, we’d likely go back to Baltimore or somewhere in the Highlands. Saturday I pray they are flying out because by this point I’m exhausted. Lol!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my Beautiful Daughter, Zuri which I often profess is “God’s Love Letter To Me” My courageous and strong mother Diane that’s my biggest fan
My Business Partner and Friend, Tonnae Nicole
And the tribe of people that God has blessed me with that pray for me, attend my speaking engagements, buys my products and those God has blessed me to inspire
