We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrick Vore & Sydney Francis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Derrick Vore & Sydney Francis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We originally started our food page because we were begged from many friends and family members about it, and told that we should start a page, or account discussing all of the wonderful places we have eaten at, stayed, and enjoyed all around Georgia… and later out of state!
It wasn’t until we were on our way home from the Georgia State Fair in Perry, GA that we decided that we were going to document our adventures starting with the fair! It wasn’t our most content heavy post, but it certainly was one that we felt was a great start to our account. We even posted a cute montage of all the other restaurants that we had visited prior to GAPeachEats creation. Our friends absolutely loved it, it was such a great feeling for both of us. We just kept making plans for great places to visit afterwards. We would usually plan our date nights during the weekends, or during a day that Sydney has off during the week and it just took off from there. Even to this day we have plenty of friends or family who will send us clips of other restaurant reels, or posts from establishments asking us if ‘Peach Eats’ had plans to go. We both feel so lucky that the support for our hobby is evident within our circle and we love it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Sydney: Currently, I work as a Registered Nurse that specializes in oncology (cancer patients). A typical day includes administering chemotherapy treatments, delivering blood products, and working with clinical trials. Nothing brings joy to my face more than hearing the ‘cancer-free’ bell ring in the clinic. Many patients have to deal with stress, both medically and non-medically, and I strive to make sure those stresses can diminish while under my care. I also aim to see at least one smile a day from each of my patients!
Derrick: I have just graduated with my masters in public administration! I am currently looking for work, while enjoying some time at home taking care of my girlfriend!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would have to warn them.. Atlanta has so many places to visit, and places to eat that I wouldn’t be sure we could give them the whole Atlanta experience in one week, but we could try! During the weekdays, Sydney and I would probably just try to show our best friend some of the more busier places such as the Botanical Gardens, Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coca Cola when there is less foot traffic, and people around.
Then of course you can’t come to Atlanta without going to Ponce City Market and the Beltline. We would take them to our favorite places to eat on the Beltline like New Realm (Beltline), Ton Ton Ramen (in Ponce), and Five Daughters Bakery (in Ponce). And after all of that heavy eating, we would work off the calories by doing put-put on the top of Ponce City Market. We would of course try to fit in the busy schedule some of the other classic gems of Georgia. Such as the Halcyon in Alpharetta which is our stomping grounds! We would love to share the Battery with our best friend as well, as we have fond memories there. So many great places to check out so close to the Stadium!
Lastly, we would have to show the unforgettable sights to be seen at our favorite hiking spots, such as East Palisades (The Bamboo Forest!), Amicalola Falls, and Stone Mountain. All of these are amazing photo opportunities for making others jealous! Lastly, we would probably wish them luck traversing the goliath that is our airport.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Derrick: For me, I wanted to shoutout two people, first and foremost I wanted to shoutout my other half of Georgia Peach Eats, my wonderful girlfriend Sydney. She puts a lot of effort into finding these restaurants for the page by scouring the internet and talking to coworkers about potential places. She really has put a lot of effort into this page, and I just wanted to give her a special shoutout that she means so much to me!
Secondly, I wanted to give a shoutout to my mom, she has been so excited about this page and constantly finds great places on social media that she will send us to look into, or check out. It is just so cool to have a parent that is so invested in something that we are happy about. So, thank you momma!
Sydney: I want to give a shout out to my parents. They have been so encouraging and were physically present when Georgia Peach Eats was born. They may not have Instagram but there has never been a time where I haven’t felt their love and support. I also want to give a very special shout out to the Co-Creator of Georgia Peach eats also known as my boyfriend Derrick. He has really been the forefront of turning this little dream of ours into a reality. He has been so dedicated and open to learning new editing skills to improve our content. I am so lucky to have such a caring person in my life and getting to eat delicious food with him is just a bonus.
