We had the good fortune of connecting with Deji Garuba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deji, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When we started Belfry Africa we had one goal in mind which was to help brands communicate with their target audience effectively. We observed that brands were either not struggling to get their message out there or completely dont even know how to do it. Alot of small businesses or startups were frustrated and the know what to do with their marketing communication. This challenge that these organisations were going through informed our decision to create solutions through indepth audience research to find solutions to clients that trust us across various sectors.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business was inspired buy the gap we saw in the marketing communications industry here in Nigeria. We continually create tailor made solutions for our clients. We do not believe in ‘One size, fits all’ approach that’s why we treat every brand based on its perculiarity. We also leverage technology for increased efficiency. Doing business has been tough as new trends emerge frequently that we need to consider in our decision making. Our biggest lesson in all of these is to stay focus on our brand strategy and also try to tweak it as we proceed in our brand journey without derailing from our core brand principles. Belfry Africa is here to deliver big ideas to big audiences across the globe.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are loads of fun spots in Lagos. Both day and night life is super interesting. We can enjoy some local dishes like amala, pounded yam and jollof rice across local restaurants within the Lagos mainland. There is also a twist of street food like roasted plantain locally known as Boli and also roasted corn and yam. The Lagos insland has some very interesting night spots where we can enjoy drinks and also some continental food. There are also good dance spots where we can enjoy some dancing time. The city of Lagos has some of the best beaches in the country and it will be a crime to visit Lagos without its beach experience. There also seaside bars with very beautiful views to enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our brand story wont be complete without the mention of the immense from Esther Abu a brand communication expert who over the years has greatly help in the setting a solid foundation and also continually help to build our brand.
