We had the good fortune of connecting with Deja Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deja, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always felt like i have too much creativity for a 9 to 5; too much potential . Since i was a young girl i had this undeniable passion for hair . That turned into a bigger passion for making my peers around me feel beautiful. As well as my community. The ability to make someone else feel beautiful through a style that I’ve created just for them is something I knew I wanted to wakeup and do every day . Also, the traumatic things I experienced early in life gave me the strength and inspiration. I knew i wanted to defy the odds against me . And with Hair Innovationz I am doing just that .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hairstylist/Braider , both titles are fine with me but in my mind I am an Artist and A Mathematician as well. The more intricate the style or design the more likely you are to incorporate one of the two and sometimes both . God gifted me with the talent of creativity. Im able to create ANY style . With Passion. And it shows through my product . People also love my personality. Ive learned over time that people actually buy into you and not your product. Knowing how to deal with all personalities is a must. Not everyone is going to like you and thats okay because the amount of people who love you will heavily overweight that ! My brand has taught me soooo much . I wanted the world to know about the eye injury I suffered as a toddler simply to inspire anyone that may be discouraged on their journey . If i can do it ,you can too . Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back !

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My Bestfriend lives here in Atlanta so thats tough . But we have lots of favorite spots around the city that we frequent. JeJu Wellness Spa is our go to for relaxation and recooperation . Lenox Mall is a must for retail therapy . We’ve been going to Atlantas Best Wings in Snellville since i can remember…. their wings literally are the best in the city hands down . That was our lunch spot back when we were in cosmetology school in 11’ . Our other favorite for food would be Fogo De Chao . If you want to get FULL and your moneys worth go there . Honestly we have a lot of favorites….Theres so much to do in the Atl ! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off , the majority of my success is due to the support of my clients ! I have clients that have been with me for years and the amount of loyalty and support they show me and my business is abundant . The ones who support whatever venture I may decide to take and also the ones who never forget to shout me out or bring me up in recommendations ! I get to meet so many different people every single day and because of that I’m able to network . There’s always somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody . I’ve been able to grow my business tremendously through just that aspect alone . Also, i have tons of virtual mentors. They keep me winning !
