We had the good fortune of connecting with DeChelle Tisdale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DeChelle, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Being a risk taker is what brought me to where I am in life. After graduating from Kentucky State University, I took a risk and moved to Atlanta with no job lined up, but I knew deep down inside that I was going to make it because I was determined. After I arrived to Atlanta I immediately began working in my field of study as a Full Charge Bookkeeper for a Real Estate Company (Accounting) and shortly after landed a sales position at the #1 radio station in Atlanta. I worked in Atlanta Radio for over 10 years, and then expanded my experience to Philly and Miami radio and worked in Television. I can honestly say that if I wasn’t a risk taker, I would still be in Louisville, KY playing it safe but I knew i wanted more for myself and to be a role model for others who dream big but come from a small town. After working in media for years I pivoted to the world of Real Estate and became a realtor in Florida and Georgia. You have to be a risk taker in order to do the things I have accomplished and to be able to pivot on a dime. My philosophy has always been, “If I fail, at least I can say I tried.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been in the world of Media for over 20 years working in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Miami markets helping companies with their radio, tv and on-line digital marketing campaigns. I have a strong desire in creating plans and strategies for companies and actually seeing my plan come to life and actually work. I have worked with many companies including Live Nation, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, CVS, Six Flags, Philadelphia School District, Core Water, AEG Entertainment, Planned Parenthood and Six Flags. One of my biggest accomplishments was creating a campaign for my client St. Jude Hospital and raising over 1.6 million dollars in a radio-thon to give back to help kids who are patients at St. Jude Hospital.
After working in radio for many years, I decided to pivot my skills to Real Estate because I have a love for seeing clients happy and I wanted to continue to create impactful relationships. It was a big adjustment balancing media, real estate and being a mom while juggling time for myself. During those times of pivoting, I came up with a strategy/formula to help balance my plan of action called SPPP plan.
S-Strategize, P-Plan, P-Pivot, P-Period.
Once I applied the plan to my everyday life, it became much easier balancing being a National Media Strategist, Realtor, Mom and having time for myself. In conclusion, it is impossible to be successful in this world if you are not able to pivot and adjust to obtain the goals you have set for your self.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Activities would be to attend a concert in THE ATL. There is nothing like going to a concert in Atlanta because of the energy, vibe and the people. Stop by The Georgia Aquarium, and to exercise we would hike up Stone Mountain Park, and visit the Belt Line which is 22 miles of unused railroad tracks circling the core of the cities in town neighborhoods. From trails and walkways to open green space and parks. the Atlanta Beltline connects people to neighborhoods, dining and cool places throughout the city.
Live music at Whiskey Mistress, Trap Museum Atlanta and Trap Museum Cafe -TI’s establishment.
Eat at Breakfast at Barneys and Toast on Lenox,
Dinner at APT 4B, Nobu, The Battery ATL, STK-ATl, and go to THE BEAUTIFUL for some good old fashion soul food.
Smoke cigars and network at BURN by Rocky Patel cigar bar and Fellaship ATL. Finally, we must go to Chateau Elan Winery for dinner and wine and enjoy the beautiful views.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this article to my beautiful Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc at Kentucky State University as we celebrate 30 years of sisterhood this year.
