We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Houston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deborah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was not a seed I even knew was planted inside of me. I just knew that going through the loss of my son, and then the loss of a relationship was so devastating that when I saw light after the heartbreak, I couldn’t let other women stay where they were, in pain, and despair.

I began talking to one person at a time, then I was led to the realization that I’d discovered my life purpose. I began seeing it like that and took small steps forward and Inner Perspective Coaching was born.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most excited about The Oyster’s Shell ~ Turning Pain into Pearls, which helps women navigate from a state of brokenness to a state of wholeness, where they literally reinvent themselves. Also, the program that does the same for my male clients, Mending Heartbreak ~ Men Ending Heartbreak. I found that men tend to say, I’m good, but then attract what broke them before. Mending Heartbreak addresses the areas that are most often avoided and ignored, the broken heart itself, and bruised ego.

I got here by always believing I was leaning into my divine purpose, and I am grateful for the gifted wisdom from the divine that He trusted me to help others heal their hearts, gain courage, build confidence, and create fulfilled lives.

The journey has not been easy and is far from complete. It has taken courage to be vulnerable, open, and forthcoming with my story. When trying to overcome challenges, the first thing I look at is how much pain the problem is causing me, and what will it cost to keep living with it versus the cost of using the pain as my foundation for creating something better.

The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that pain is not going to destroy you, it’s the decision to live with it that will do the destroying.

My story is shared, not to gain pity, but to impart strength, courage, desire, and change in the hearts of others. I have been able to inspire many to open up and believe in themselves and heal their hearts by also taking an inner perspective approach. My brand’s core is to help the heart return to its center, which is love, and change the conversation between it and the head. Once that happens, your life will not look the same, be the same, or feel the same.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would certainly head over to Marietta Diner for the great ambiance, a large array of food choices, and fantastic service. Afterward, stop off at Kats Café, a little nightclub with signature martinis and live music featuring local Atlanta artists. It’s cozy and intimate!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to just say how thankful I am for heroes like Lisa Nichols, and Les Brown, who was brave enough to share their intimate life stories so that other heroes could come forward. It was Dr. Alvin Sutherland Jr. who helped me navigate through my journey and find the real Deborah. I listened, took his advice, and took the action necessary to rebuild and become who I am today.
