We had the good fortune of connecting with David Quampah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what makes you happy? Why?
Without a doubt, it’s the dynamic synergy of art and music. These two elements are like the cornerstone of my joy. Creativity expressed through art and music is not just a pastime for me; it’s a means of self-expression and emotional connection. From my earliest memories, I found solace and excitement in drawing and painting, and as I matured, music seamlessly integrated into my life, becoming a vital part of my identity. What truly fascinates me is how music transcends language barriers, speaking directly to the depths of human emotion. The ability to communicate through music, touching the hearts of listeners, fills me with immense satisfaction. Art and music aren’t just mere interests; they’re pillars of my happiness, elevating my spirits and enriching my existence in ways words can hardly describe.

Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am proud of my growth relating to my creativity. Getting to this point was not easy and as cliche as it may sound, I had to practice and practice and practice and I’m still practicing. A major challenge was navigating a schedule that makes room for a healthy work-life balance. This schedule still takes on a different form depending on the day.

Along the way, one valuable lesson I’ve learned is that ideas are infinite. Constantly reminding myself of this has occasionally helped when dealing with creative block so I trust in the creative process and keep pushing forward.

Ultimately, what I want the world to know about me and my journey is that my work is driven by passion and dedication. My story is one of growth and I hope to inspire others to embrace theirs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The High Museum, then the Museum of Design (MODA) right across the street from The High. Also, the Museum of Illusions in Atlantic Station since it’s not too far. For food and drinks, Ponce City Market and of course, we’ll walk the Beltline. Maybe ride a scooter instead since summer is already here. Colony Square would be another good location for more food. Maybe we’ll watch a movie at the IPIC theatre depending on what’s out and take a walk in Piedmont Park. For dinner, Rocksteady would be ideal and if it’s a Tuesday night, we aren’t leaving until 2 AM. It’s Bamba Tuesday.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Firstly, a massive shoutout to my support system—the amazing people who have been with me through thick and thin. Their unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in me keep me going. They know who they are, and I am endlessly grateful for their presence in my life.

I also want to shout out to anyone who has encountered my work in any capacity and has shown it love, appreciation, or support. Knowing that my work resonates with others and brings joy or inspiration makes every effort worthwhile. Thank you for being a part of my journey and for your role in keeping my creative fire burning bright.

And lastly, a huge shoutout to all the amazing creatives who inspire me, especially in the world of Afrobeats and African Art. These people are like my creative fuel! There are so many of them that I could go on forever, but you know who you are. Your work lights up my creative path and I’m beyond grateful for the inspiration you provide.
