We had the good fortune of connecting with Violent Rays and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Violent Rays, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being able to perform on stage provides an opportunity to be “in the moment” and allows everyone present to be equal and have something to relate to. It’s a moment in time in which problems, worries, stresses are not in the forefront. Expressing ourselves artistically not only allows us to be ourselves, judgement free, but also provides a voice to the voiceless. Ultimately, we want to inspire others to be themselves, unapologetically.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We maintain a “do it yourself, go for it” attitude. We believe in taking chances and figuring it out along the way so that we don’t miss an opportunity. The biggest challenge we’ve faced is maintaining our faith throughout the pandemic when playing together and doing shows wasn’t possible. We are most proud of the fact that we have built our band and brand thus far on our own, and overcoming the obstacle of not having previous experience doing this sort of thing. We’ve formed a close bond due to having a certain level of understanding with each other and commitment to each other.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The book, Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind by David Goggins really inspired me to actively seek out discomfort in order to allow myself to grow and take inventory of my shortcomings. This allowed me to become confident and satisfied with my life. It motivated me to embrace discomfort on many different plains: physical, emotional, career, etc. It laid out a disciplined structure that allowed me to be confident with myself and with taking risks. – Caleb Harmon, Lead Vocals
