Meet Daniel Bodkin | Sports Physical Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Bodkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I specialize in the use of high-tech sports rehab equipment which allows us to objectively test an athlete’s readiness for safe return to sports and improve their athletic ability. I work primarily with athletes recovering from ACL reconstruction and other high-risk injuries.
I opened my business because even though we have amazing sports rehab specialists in Atlanta, most clinics don’t have access to the high-dollar technologies used for the testing side of sports rehab. But by working alongside local Atlanta physical therapists, athletic trainers, and surgeons, we can help get our athletes back on the field safely.
With most sports injuries, athletes are able to return back to play with a low risk of re-injury. But with injuries such as ACL tears, 1 in 4 athletes will suffer re-injury and unfortunately, these already take about 12 to 18 months to recover from. The testing data identifies what elements need to be focused on in order for them to achieve their goal of returning to play safely and coming back stronger.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is my background in the US Army Field Artillery. When you start your adult life in such a high-stakes environment, which doesn’t allow for much room for error, you take that level of drive with you afterward. I’ve continued to approach life after the military with the same intensity bringing it with me through my time in college and early career. I now continue on as a practice owner.
Athletes are basing their return to sports after high-risk injuries based on my recommendations. I want to make sure I’m giving them the best information possible.
This road has not been easy. My wife, who is also in the medical field, and I have a saying we teach out two young daughters which is, “I can do hard things”. It would have been easy at any step along my path to steer toward the less difficult path but that wouldn’t have brought me to where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My wife and I are big foodies and Atlanta has the best food in the south so when we have friends in town we want to go to some of our favorite restaurants in Decatur, Dunwoody, or Midtown. Other than food, I also love taking friends to escape rooms or to any of the shows or events going on in the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had a series of great leaders along the way including my time in the military, professors in college, and clinical mentors while practicing in sports medicine. If there’s one person to shout out, it should be my mentor and good friend John Hisamoto who I learned isokinetic dynamometery from.
