We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dana, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I haven’t really thought about the end goal of the podcast up until recently. The ultimate goal is to be on a podcast platform to have a wider audience and inspire more people to just go after their dreams. Stop overthinking things that you want to start and go after, that vision of yourself you always dreamed about. I know that is the number one thing that makes people not start, so ultimately, I would want to inspire anyone watching my journey. And just hope it gives them that courage to not let their fears of failing make them never try.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a full-time IT infrastructure kind of sore. I’ve been in the industry for about 10 years ever since I graduated college. Funny thing is this was never how I pictured my future. I graduated from a four year university with a business marketing degree and the goal was always to do advertising for cosmetics companies, but after having my dream shattered, because I couldn’t land a paying internship I decided let me dip my toes in the IT field. The first interview I went on I got the job and was on the run from there Into the current title as an IT infrastructure administrator. It was not an easy journey. It taught me a lot about myself, including having patience for others, being very descriptive on what I’m looking at and what I’m trying to show someone else not only on the computer screen, but in different aspects in relationships too. It has made me more of an analytical type of person, but I think I was always this way it more so enhanced a personality trait, I’ve always had which was trying to be as organized as possible, having great time management, and working as a collective to get a job done .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OK, so I live close to NYC so that would be the spot to go. I’ve actually done this before with a few friends and had a weekend getaway. First thing on the list was going to the edge and Hudson yards. That’s a must as a tourist lol. Then it’s exploring Times Square being the ultimate tourist. Taking pictures of the summer sunset then going to barbecue, wild wings for drinks and fun. Or we would switch it up and do a nice fancy dinner at a place we’ve never been to, but found on TikTok. Recently I have been exploring Brooklyn And checking out all of the new Caribbean spots that have amazing oxtails and plants in paired with an amazing island inspired drink. There’s this place in Manhattan called Miss lilies, and it is a Jamaican inspired restaurant with the best ribs and piña colada you would dream of. Like I literally dreamed about it the next day lol.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shout out a few things that are motivating me in this current space. One of the books I’m reading is called, “You are a bad ass how to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life” by Jen Sincero. It’s basically a how to book on bringing your dreams into a reality and stop finding excuses for mediocrity. Great read if you’re looking for an inspiring story and somewhat of a life coach. I also wanna give a shout out to the amazing women and my family, who have been rooting for me and my success Ever since I could remember. If it wasn’t for my grandmother, my aunt and my mom‘s encouragement to keep going and striving for greatness I’m not sure if I would be the same powerhouse person to ignite ideas into a reality. I am forever grateful to them ❤️
