Meet Daion Brewer | News Producer & Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daion Brewer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daion, how do you think about risk?
At a very young age, I realized I would need to take risks if I ever want to be successful in this life. I’ve never had a problem with leaving my comfort zone. My first life changing risk was applying to my first big girl job out of college. I spent years living in a new state and away from everything that I was familiar with. I didn’t know much about the job and I definitely didn’t know anything about the area I moved to. Over time, I was able to gain new experiences and learn new lessons that would have never been possible if I would have stayed where I was comfortable. That move proved to me that I can do anything. It is also the reason why I have excelled in my career.
I have always been a private person, but I know that I have a gift to inspire others. That is why I took a chance on myself and decided to start sharing my life as a bald woman on social media. It has been almost a year and I have built a community of people who are inspired by my work. I get daily messages from different people expressing how I have helped them on their journey. Whether cutting their hair was forced or by choice, it warms my heart to know that I am helping others build the confidence they need to get through some of their darkest moments. It truly keeps me going. Publicly sharing my journey has to be the only risk that I was ever scared to take, and I am so glad that I did not let fear stop me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This is somewhat an exclusive because not many people know what I do for a living. I work in the news industry and I personally believe it is one of the toughest industries to work in. I started off in a small market in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was my first job in my field. I was determined to learn how to do every role in that news station so that I can gain all of the skills I need to work in the bigger markets. I have always been a go-getter. If it was not for that mindset, I would not have been able to get as far as I am.
A few weeks before the pandemic started, I landed my first full-time job in news. That was life changing. We all know what went on during that time. Aside from dealing with things in my personal life, I had to pull it together to make sure I keep the public informed about what was going on in the world. The stories I had to cover were so overwhelming. It was tough. So many deaths, so much destruction, and so many people treated unfairly. Since then, nothing surprises me anymore. It has made my skin so tough. Sometimes it is still hard to disconnect from the stories I cover, but I now know how to deal with it.
For a long time, my life has revolved around my career. I am so grateful to have come this far. I work for the #1 local news station and I could not be more proud. I have made a great name for myself in this industry. My work speaks volumes. My ability to remain calm in the midst of all of the chaos has opened up several new doors for me.
While my job is a blessing, I cannot see me doing it forever. I am more than my career. That is why I took a chance on myself and began opening up on social media. I have a purpose and that is to help other women build the confidence they need to get through life. I pray that I am able to reach an audience greater than my imagination. I am just getting started on my journey to help and heal.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, the itinerary would look a little something like this:
Monday: Shopping & lunch in Buckhead Village, catch a movie at a theater, and then dinner at Bar of Thailand
Tuesday: Breakfast at 5Church, spa day at Woodhouse Spa, and dinner at Bar Taco
Wednesday: Picnic in Piedmont park and then let the day take us wherever it desires
Thursday: Visit the Porsche Experience Center, grab lunch from Busy Bee Cafe, rest, then dinner at Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar
Friday: Mani & pedi date, take some type of class (candle making, cooking, etc.), & dinner at St. Cecilia
Saturday: Hopefully there’s some type of festival going on. If not, we’ll do a wine tour
Sunday: Church and brunch before her flight
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give all of the credit to God. He is my mentor. Without my faith in him, I simply would not be in a position to do this interview.
