We had the good fortune of connecting with Daevona Allick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daevona, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never knew I’d have my own business, but when I realized my talent and put forth the hard work and effort, that’s when everything hit me! My thought process shifted on so many levels! I started to plan more, set minor and major goals that started with my image and how I projected to those who looked up to me or who I’d be working with in the near future. This was most important to me because as my clientele grew, I realized not only was it about the service, but who it was provided by and left a remark! Then, my thought process became much more clearer. I adjusted my lifestyle to “Grind Mode”. I knew I had a lot to keep up with. Priorities were always number 1 but as my business continued to flourish, I had to train myself to separate work mode and play mode. Now looking back, I’m proud I was able to manage it all to create my successful business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I stylist, I’m so proud to be able to boost many of my clients confidence with beautiful styles of course, but also encouraging words and conversations that are just simply a vibe! It’s one thing to just get your hair done but it’s another when you book a service for an entire experience! Being able to see shocking faces once a service is complete just let’s me know I have a true talent that doesn’t just pertain to “styling” someone’s hair. For that, I’ll always work hard & continue to elevate my business!
Honestly, looking back at how fast everything took off for me with being completely booked, working with celebrities and many public figures, it took some losses that I’m actually grateful for to get me where I am today. Life is all about learning lessons & owning up to your faults. There were times where I had so much on my plate and couldn’t satisfy everyone at once that caused me to make decisions that some of my clients would be upset with. That’s when I found balance and learned how to manage my time. It wasn’t easy for me. I was a new entrepreneur in a state where the beauty industry was next level! Challenges that came about were difficult at first but became easier as time passed. I was able to change my schedule and plan accordingly so that I’m able to satisfy everyone I worked with.
No one is perfect. There will always be bumps in the road and rain before it shines! When you have a dream, your mindset has to be the strongest before anything else. You have to believe in yourself and allow yourself to make mistakes so you can perfect your craft. Even when it gets hard, – because trust me times will come! You have to always be strong enough and believe that you can get through literally anything.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off I would like to thank God for blessing me with my special talents and allowing me to visit places I’ve never been, taking my creativeness & gifts to the next level. Next I would like to Thank Valerie Fleming for encouraging me to work hard, believed in my every move & helped me up while I was down & didn’t believe in my own dreams anymore. If it wasn’t for her there would be no Stylez Galore. Thank you Mom! Next I would like to say Thank you to my Cut Creators family for literally everything! Thank you for introducing me to a different platform, the Bronner Bros Hair Show, & every other opportunity that was presented to me while working there. Of course I’d like to thank my supporters, clients, friends and family who supported the dream and seen the vision before hand! I’m truly grateful for everyone who plays a role in my success.
