We had the good fortune of connecting with Curtis Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Curtis, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing I have done as a father is being present. I have daughters and I think that it is important for them to see what a positive, loving male figure looks like. I grew up without a father in my life, but I had influential male figures like my grandfather and uncles that showed me how to grow into the man I am today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The name of my business is Curtis’s Custom Cuisine and I have the head chef/caterer. What sets me apart from similar companies in my area is the customization of my food. Most places make little to no exceptions to their menu and what you can have. I allow my clients to pick the items from my menus that best fit their needs or they can request items that are not on the menu. My food is unique, elevated, southern-inspired cuisine that I take great pride in. The road to where I am not was not an easy one and I believe my biggest hurdle was self-doubt. It is one thing to cook for family and friends and its another to cater a wedding of 200. I had to increase my confidence level and understand that the product that I was putting out was next level. I love what I do and the art of cooking. I fully believe that if you do not love what you are doing or the product you are putting out, others will know it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am in Cincinnati, OH and I believe there are plenty of hot spots to hit. I would take my friend to grab food from Yard House before heading over to the Underground Railroad Freedom Center to receive a history lesson. I would also swing them by Alabama’s Fish Bar for THEE best fried fish in the city, then go to check out the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. Food and fun is paramount for me. Lastly, We’d go to the Cincinnati Zoo. While we are there, we’ll indulge in some Cincinnati staples such as LaRosa’s, Skyline, and Graeter’s.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Irene. She was the one who pushed me to start my own business and supported me through the up and downs in the beginning. I could not be where I am without her.
