We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Kenon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The end goal of my professional entertainment career is to own a multi-operational company. My vision is to be able to provide entertainment services ranging from backyard barbecues to weddings across states. In addition to providing musical entertainment, another goal of mine to teach the business aspect of entertainment to potential and current DJ’s across the globe. My passion to teach and mentor through my knowledge and experience is rewarding to me, but ultimately setting the professional standard for people to follow is true reward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cee Kay Soundz, my musical entertainment company, comes from my Initials “C” “K”b but I am more than a DJ. I am also an educator. This is my tenth year in education. Currently I teach 8th grade Math and Math 1 at West Millbrook Magnet Middle School in Raleigh, NC. I have previously been named Teacher of the Year for two years consecutively in different school districts. I was also named Teacher of the Week by WITN news channel located in Greenville, NC. My energy, humor, charisma and knowledge of math content has rewarded me to be well loved by educators, parents, but most of all students. Teaching and mentoring the youth is my passion. My influence on the younger generation has allowed me to connect and develop relationships with them, which makes it easier for them to listen, learn, and share their experiences. In my position, I have the power to let them know what’s ahead in life and guide them towards decisions that will later affect their adulthood and family. In addition, and most importantly, I have the privilege to teach students what schools will not teach them. With that being said, I can share real life experiences with them so they can relate it to their own.

One way I was able to connect with students so much was through music. Music has always been apart of my life so I made it apart of my classroom. Music cultivated a climate of expression and it also shaped how my classroom was structured and organized. I am always considered the cool teacher because of how I incorporate music in math lessons. School is actually the starting point of my DJ career. I performed my first event for my elementary school dance.

I have always wanted to influence the youth the way I wished I was influenced. My purpose is to pour into the youth. The reward is when students reach out to you and tell you how much you mean to them or they took my advice or I saved their life because I helped them make the right decision. That’s why I love what I do. Thats my “WHY”!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends visited for a week long trip it is a definite that we visit some good eating spots. Some of my favorite eating spots are Morgan Street Food Hall, Perry’s, and Crab De Jour, for their variety of foods and drinks they have to offer. From juicy steaks and well seasoned Brussel sprouts to Crab Legs I would have my guests covered. For our evening entertainment, in my view, the most exciting thing to do with visiting friends is attending a concert at the city amphitheater to see our favorite artists and/or bands. After the concert, heading to downtown Raleigh for festivities is ideal and a MUST. LOL Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my fiance, Tkiyah Outlaw, owner of TKO Total Events, for the love and words of encouragement on a daily basis. In an oversaturated business of wedding professionals it can sometimes get overwhelming in the sense of not getting the recognition you feel you deserve. She is right there to support me and helps me think long term and how this feeling will not last always. Her words allow me to think of the bigger picture and my “WHY”! As a result, I channel my energy in the right direction so I can stay the course.
