We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Bowman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success at Ms DiDi’s Caribbean kitchen is our amazing consistent product which is our authentic Haitian cuisine and how serious we take customer service. It allows all of our customers to feel like family and our food tastes like home.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Ms DiDi’s Caribbean Kitchen is a mother ( Ms didi) /daughter ( christina bowman) duo that is serving the Queen City an exquisite taste of the Haitian cuisine with their Food Truck and Catering services.
What sets us apart from others is our family fun dynamic, our flavors and the fact that we unapologetically LOVE being Haitian and are so proud to share our amazing culture and food with the world.
Both my mother and I have entrepreneurial experience prior to us starting our Haitian food truck, however even with that We had no idea what we were doing or what to expect. One thing we did know is that we had 1. a GREAT product 2. Burning Desire to succeed no matter what. It was not easy at all, we had a lot of learning lessons along the way but we never gave up. We are and still always willing to be students to the industry, grow and evolve. My mom (Ms DiDi) is one of the most incredible, hard working, gifted people that I know and keeping her food and legacy alive has kept me going.
We want them to know that this small family business Ms DiDi’s is built off of love, strength, and determination. We love our country Haiti, we love our culture and cuisine, and we love and appreciate all of our customers and supporters. They make it so worth everything we have been through. We love what we do. This is only the beginning of our story.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely take them to eat moms food at Msdidi’s first! All of my friends love my moms food when they come in town.
A few other locations I would take them to is:
Top Golf
VBGB
Comedy zone
Food & Drink locations:
Optimist Hall
Camp North End
Some yummy local Black owned businesses:
Cuzzos cuisine
Cravin Caribbean
Best of both souls ( Vegan )
Bite your tongue
Another?! food truck
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Haitian community for always showing up to support us throughout this journey and continuing to share our business to their family, friends and co workers.
Chef Andarrio and his team from Cuzzos cuisine for being there for us since day one. We appreciate them so much for mentoring us in the beginning and continuing to give us advice whenever we are in need. We salute and respect him so much for all he has done for us selflessly.
and last but not least, Our Family & Friends for pitching in when we needed help, sharing and supporting and believing in us when we were just dreaming and planning the idea of our business until now.
