We had the good fortune of connecting with Christi Hairston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thoughts behind creating my own hosiery brand was to solve a couple of problems. One the need for a product that would allow consumers to have high quality tights two, a product that was fashion-forward and sustainable, three a design that would allow hosiery lovers to go commando! CARRA Hosiery is where my passion for fashion and a commitment to sustainability met on the runway. Before launching the business, thorough research and development was necessary. This involved sourcing sustainable materials, testing different designs and manufacturing processes, and ensuring the products met quality standards.
 

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a DC native, mother of two, traveler (have seen 30 of the 50 states) wine enthusiast, outdoor camping marketing professional. Being an entrepreneur and navigating through the business process is to date one of the biggest challenges. What is easy for me now is being an empty nester and watching my adult kids live out their own dreams and passions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Washington, D.C. offers a plethora of exciting activities and attractions! Also knows as the DMV which includes the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. First, we are heading to the National Museum of African American History and Culture then grab lunch at the famous Old Ebbitt Grill for oysters and seafood! Next, we will spend some time wine tasting in Virginia. Although the state’s slogan is “Virginia is for lovers,” Virginia is also known for its wineries. And this trip to the wineries would be first class chauffeured service, because guess what? My best friend deserves the best! The wonderful thing about visiting wineries in Virginia is they are conveniently close to one another which would make for a good experience. The next day would be a full day at King Spa. This is the best way to relax and unwind. For my best friend’s last night in town, we are going to visit The Wharf to catch a concert and dinner. The Wharf offers the best views in the city and an array of cuisines to explore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my amazing group of girlfriends and family that have supported my vision and brand from the very start, Ansche C, Monica R. Fawn E, Kelly H. Pam W. Tanya E, Soraya D, Lisa D. and Tiffany B. Without these ladies, my brand would not be where it is today. They deserve the biggest shoutout ever!
