Meet Chris James | R&B Singer/ Songwriter & Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue my career as an artist because it’s who I am! I’ve always best expressed myself through music whether it was singing, writing or dancing, it’s always been apart of me. Being able to channel my emotions and use music as a form of therapy has always been something that I dreamed of being able to make a living off of. People always say when you’re doing something you love it doesn’t feel like work, and I never wanted my career to feel like work, it’s an extension of who I am, and how I’m able to express and also help others in the process.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is deeply rooted in emotion, storytelling, and truth. Whether I’m in the booth or in front of the camera, I aim to connect with people in a real way—to move them, to inspire them, or just help them feel something they’ve been holding in.
What sets me apart is the blend of vulnerability and confidence I bring to everything I create. I’m not afraid to tap into the raw parts of life—love, heartbreak, ambition, pain, hope—and express it with clarity and soul. I think real artistry is about honesty, and that’s what I’m bringing to the table.
I’m most excited about what’s ahead. I’m still building, still grinding, but I know the impact I’m working toward. This is the year I plan to make a real splash and start gaining the traction that matches my vision and my hustle. I’ve put in a lot of time behind the scenes—writing, recording, auditioning, training, studying—and now it’s time to start showing the world what I’ve been working on.
Getting to where I am hasn’t been easy. There have been setbacks, doubt, and moments where the path forward wasn’t always clear. But I’ve learned to keep going anyway. I’ve learned that progress isn’t always loud, and success doesn’t happen overnight. You’ve got to believe in your purpose even when no one else sees it yet.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my brand, it’s that Chris James is built on resilience, passion, and purpose. I’m not here just to be famous—I’m here to create something meaningful. My story is still being written, but every step I take is toward something greater. And when that breakthrough moment comes, it’s going to mean that much more because of the journey it took to get there.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me in Atlanta for a week, I’d make sure they got the full ATL experience—good vibes, good food, good music, and a little bit of everything that makes this city special from my experience so far.
We’d kick things off with brunch, because Atlanta brunch culture is huge. I’m talking Toast on Lenox or something similar with good food, good energy, and a DJ spinning in the background. After that, we’d probably hit the BeltLine and walk it off, maybe check out Ponce City Market, grab some drinks, and kick it.
A couple of the days, we’d have to hit a studio session—show them how I work, let them catch a vibe while I lay something down. Then at night, maybe head to Blu Lagoon or Esco for drinks—somewhere grown but still fun. I don’t really go out to clubs heavy like that, but every now and then I’ll pop out, especially if there’s a DJ I rock with there like DJ Zee, DJ Venom or Spacey.
We’d definitely grab food at some of the Black-owned spots—Slutty Vegan is a must, especially for the experience, and Twisted Soul or ATL Fusion BBQ. If they’re into art or history, I’d take them to the Trap Music Museum or the High Museum of Art—Atlanta has a creative culture that’s really deep if you know where to look. I love the Zoo too so that would for sure be a place I’d go.
By the end of the week, they’d definitely feel like they got the full spectrum of ATL, from the fast pace and creativity to the relaxation and nightlife. Atlanta’s one of those places where you can move fast or take it slow, and that balance is what I love about it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost all glory to God for giving me the talents and the vision to express these gifts that he’s given me. Without him nothing is possible so all glory and honor to him. I also want to thank my mom, although we may have not always seen eye to eye on how I wanted to go about achieving my dream, she’s always shown her support in some way. My family, my friends and loved ones have all played significant roles in my journey, whether it was advice, criticism, support and everything in between, they’ve always supported me wanting to go after this not so traditional goal, and for that I am forever grateful. And s/o to my muse, my love, my inspiration for reminding me of who I am, what I’m capable of and why I need to do what I need to do so I can be where I want to be.
